Any dentists here please?

Had an impacted wisdom tooth removed a few days ago, still very painful and had a few stitches.

I’ve just noticed a small yellow tube in my mouth now that some of the swelling has gone down, it looks like it goes from the back of the last tooth along where the stitches are. It looks quite a solid tube. Definitely not part of the actual stitches which look thick and black (dissolvable ones)

Any ideas what this could be? And more importantly is this supposed to be there?? It’s been pretty difficult to get dental appointments lately so I thought I’d ask for a general opinion first if anyone can help please?? It’s still pretty painful and I’d really rather not go back if I don’t have to! Thanks

Not a dentist so feel free to ignore me - but could it be a bony fragment left behind? I had one out a few years ago and I could feel a poky spiky bit in the socket. At the follow up appointment my dentist removed it (with what looked like little tweezers) but she said it would have eventually come out by itself. (Also that it was very common, especially if it was a tricky extraction which mine was.)

Thanks for the suggestion. Hmmm I’m not sure, it looks quite uniform and more stick/tube like. Unfortunately not been able to get a photo of it and googling hasn’t helped

Not a dentist so can’t say on the yellow. Did you have it done under a general anaesthetic? I’m having my impacted one removed in just over a week.
Did you get told a recommended recovery time? I have a root canal booked for 9 days after the op. Wondering if you think that’s possible based on your experience? Thanks x

Not sure if it’s a spacer, I don’t think so. Argh it feels yuck.

Just ring in and they will see you quickly under these circumstances? I had a run of dental problems a few years back and felt like I was being a pest, but my dentist said she would always rather see someone than have them worried/in pain.

Hmmm not sure I have no idea what a root canal is sorry!

I’ve had 3 impacted wisdom teeth removed so far, all under sedation not general anaesthetic. The actual operation was fine. Absolutely nothing to worry about was nice and relaxing relatively. The recovery hasn’t been the best. On day 7 I still needed painkillers every 4 hours (or less) and waking in the night with pain. I’m not sure I’d want any further dental treatment right now.

Hope that hasn’t put you off, just trying to be honest. Probably best to speak to your dentist.

You’re probably right. Just tricky organising childcare. And my dentist hasn’t been the best (though the actual hospital were brilliant). Will ring them tomorrow if I can

Thanks Anna. I’m being knocked out because the tooth is in a very rare and deep position.
Root canal is the nerves brig drilled out a tooth. My appointment is 1.5hrs long. Not sure I’ll be able to keep my mouth open that long so soon after surgery?

I hope your recovery keeps going well and that you get answer to the yellow bit. Xx

Ouch I don’t envy you. Good luck hope all goes well. Definitely stock up on pain killers and soup, weetabix, ice cream, hot chocolate or whatever you think you’ll fancy

@Anna1199 could it be a drain? I have no idea though! Hope you find out.
