For a few months my DH has been having severe sinus , runny nose, blocked nose . We having been racking our brains to find cause . But it definitely gets worse in the lounge and we have a new sofa . Is there any fabrics or fabric treatments that could cause this ?

Could be I guess if the timing came on at the same time. Did you get new cushions? Down can cause allergies.

they are not down - but i have found out the fabric is treated with a fire retardant chemical

It could be a possibility, my daughter has an allergy to the chemicals they use to protect leather sofa's. It was a long time ago now so I can't quite remember if she had similar symptoms to your husband but she also had contact dermatitis from it. Our current sofa has made without the treatment so she's been fine since.
