Infected chicken pox on scalp

DS 3 has just had chicken pox, and this morning we discovered that he has an infected scab on his scalp. As he has been scratching it overnight it has leaked a lot and the hair around it is quite sticky and matted. He has curly hair (and quite a lot of it) and hates having it washed at the best of times because he hates having water over his head.

He's now on antibiotics for the infection. In the meantime I'm not sure of the best way to wash his hair to ensure the hair itself and the sore are clean, whilst avoiding making the sore any worse or more sore.

Any suggestions please?
