Getting worried this is something serious…

youhadmeatjello · 30/01/2022 21:23

I never feel well
I’m tired, keep getting weird tingly feelings in patches around my neck and back.
Regular tension headaches that seem to come from the tension in my neck and shoulders.
Tonight I have a headache across the top of my head
I suffer with migraines and they’ve got worse recently lasting much longer
I wake up every morning with a vague headache feeling and a blocked up nose, feeling exhausted.
I often feel a bit sick with the tension headaches true

I’ve spoken to my Gp but they’ve just put me on pills for migraines nothing else

I’m starting to worry there’s something going on in my brain but don’t know if I’m being ridiculous

Are you feeling stressed?
If you're still worried go back to your GP and ask them to explain why they are sure it's not something in your brain.

Aquamarine1029 · 30/01/2022 21:33

Peri-menopause?

Tellthemagain · 30/01/2022 21:35

Are you grinding your teeth in your sleep.. causes tension headaches and neck problems for me, and interrupts sleep so I never feel fully rested.

Hawkmoth · 30/01/2022 21:36

Do some neck exercises and invest in decent pillows. I got my pillows mixed up and my migraines went crazy. Released the neck tension and back to baseline. It was very weird.

AnonyHB · 30/01/2022 21:37

These were my symptoms when I had b12 deficiency so worth asking for that to be tested (it’s not standard test when they do your bloods so you’ll need to posh for it).

JohannSebastianBach · 30/01/2022 21:37

Did they check your BP? Was it normal?

ollobololo · 30/01/2022 21:40

whats your day to day life like OP? Under stress? unsupported? unhappy with life in general? All these things can cause all sorts of weird health issues, more than likely not serious. Have you heard of "functional neurological disorder"? basically an often stress triggered thing which gives weird symptoms but has no diagnosable cause and it can come and go. I don't want to dismiss your symptoms but remember how much stress can cause and don't write it off if it's a possibility.

Andacherryonthetop · 30/01/2022 21:51

I have TMJD which is a jaw joint dysfunction from clenching my teeth when I’m stressed (I do it in my sleep). It gives me headaches, pain in the face and neck and really makes me feel rough. Could it be that?

Borland · 30/01/2022 21:59

@Aquamarine1029

Peri-menopause?
Sorry but there is always a poster on any thread about any symptoms a woman might be having that suggests peri-menopause 🙄 That's why women get so fobbed off at the doctors as things get blamed on hormonal issues.

I wake up every morning with a vague headache feeling and a blocked up nose, feeling exhausted

The first thing that came to mind was sleep apnoea.

youhadmeatjello · 30/01/2022 22:34

Didn’t really give much detail sorry
I’m a self employed mum of a hefty toddler who I know I lift badly - so that probably does account for a lot of my tension. I had sciatica and SPD in pregnancy and it never fully went away so I think I probably distribute weight weirdly now when I lift him etc
But the blocked up nose thing has been going on for months on and off as has the morning headachey thing sometimes it’s not even a proper headache - that probably doesn’t make sense! How would I know if I have sleep apnea?

Blood pressure was ok.

Haven’t had any blood tests was just given triptans as the doctor thinks my headaches could be hormonal.

My life is ok, I do have some stresses at the moment (parents going through a divorce. my work has dried up).

Not to drip feed but I do suffer from health anxiety on and off but I was actually doing well and managing it until these things started and then I find it really hard to tell what’s real and what’s anxiety. I think I’m slipping back into it as I’ve started panicking and thinking I have MS or a brain tumour

The blocked nose feels very sinus-y and clears up after I’ve been awake for a bit. I also wake up in the night with it sometimes and can’t get back to sleep. I do think I grind my teeth in my sleep as the dentist said there was a bit of wear from it - I had completely forgotten about that.

Maybe it’s a combination of things creating the perfect storm?

@Hawkmoth which pillows do you use? I had a fancy tempur one but got rid because I think it made my neck worse!

Yes, because those of us that have experienced horrific peri-menopause symptoms know exactly the havoc they can cause. All of the op's symptoms can be attributed to peri. It's not my fault if a GP fobs a patient off, but so many women are completely ignorant as to what peri-menopause can entail. If peri might be a possibility, any woman should go private to a specialist if at all possible.

Hawkmoth · 30/01/2022 22:41

I just got a medium firm one that made a dip for my head but supported my neck while lying on my side. If you look for neck exercises and give them a try you'll have an idea if it is that. They were surprisingly painful when I first started them, clearly a lot of tension in there that I hadn't noticed just doing normal life!

youhadmeatjello · 30/01/2022 22:44

@Aquamarine1029 hadn’t considered that. I’m 38 this year so had it in my head I was too young!

Jtb5790 · 30/01/2022 22:47

Why not just get a private MRI?

youhadmeatjello · 30/01/2022 22:48

I can’t afford a private MRI @Jtb5790

I'd go for acupuncture with those symptoms. Works wonders and great for sinus stuff.

Phrenologistsfinger · 30/01/2022 22:50

Try supplementing with electrolytes am/pm and maybe b vitamins in am. I find the former, especially potassium and magnesium, really nip my headaches/migraines in the bud.

My peri started at 39. Peri can last a decade or longer before full menopause.

youhadmeatjello · 30/01/2022 23:01

Thanks for advice. I don’t think I drink enough water either
Reading my posts back it looks like I need to look after myself a bit more

I get migraines which are quite often related to neck issues / tension. Physio / good pillows etc have really helped

Also, i resisted for a long time but caved and now take amitriptyline for migraines and it has changed my life

youhadmeatjello · 30/01/2022 23:40

@MrsRonaldUlyssesSwanson which pillows do you use? I’ve tried so many! I’m on triptans for migraines but have to try and pre-empt when I’m going to get them but it’s not really working as they tend to follow my cycle but my cycle has gone a bit mad since the vaccinations

ritalinda · 30/01/2022 23:42

Get some thorough blood tests to check for iron and b12 deficiencies

RalphLaurenG · 31/01/2022 01:07

Could it be allergies? I often wake feeling congested and sniffly and it goes away after I've been up and about a bit.
