Waiting for breast biopsy results - hand hold

feettothestars · 29/01/2022 10:49

I had a breast lump checked yesterday that was fine but whilst there they found another lump that I hadn't felt (and I'm fastidious at checking often) on the ultrasound. He said it looked low risk but that sometimes they surprised him and took three biopsies and added a titanium marker. I get my results next Friday. He thinks fibroadenoma (I've had two of these already so far) but couldn't confirm that. It all felt very serious, which I know it needs to be.

I still don't think I can find where it is but can't rummage as it's all so sore.

I am a massive worrier at the best of times and the next six days are going to be very long. I veer from thinking it will probably be ok to shit, it might not be.

Anyone else waiting?

I went through breast cancer last year and the waiting for results is the hardest part. Nothing anyone will say can make the wait any easier. Be reassured that 3 out of 4 women referred to the breast clinic are for benign reasons. If you are unlucky enough to be diagnosed with breast cancer you will be treated swiftly and efficiently and with great care. I cannot praise the NHS enough for the treatment I received. Good luck.

I'm waiting too!

I have yearly routine mammograms due to my sister having Breast Cancer under 40 (mastectomy/chemo/radio in 2018).
Last weekend I received a letter with an appointment for biopsies. (Only two days after routine mammo).

A bit of a shock as I check my boobs and had not felt anything. They'd seen two areas of change in the right breast.

So yesterday I had ultrasound and biopsies with marker placed, then they decided after check mammogram to do further biopsies in the mammogram machine and another marker.
So fingers crossed they got what they needed.

They are reviewing at MDT on Tuesday so await them making contact with me.

I'm actually quite sore, it doesn't help that I'm right handed and it's a busy household with 4 (pre-teens and teens) children and a packed weekend!

Anyway, just so you know you are not alone at the waiting stage. Thanks

On positive note DS2 (17) passed his theory test this morning, he is very practical, but dyslexic so could have gone either way! StarXx

Thank you @steppingcarefully I'm sorry you've been through BC and thanks for responding.

@Four4me the wait is hard isn't it. Six days feels a lifetime but I know that's quite good really. Sorry you're in it too but glad to hear about the driving test! I'm sore but taking it easy today. It was the mammogram after to check the marker that hurt the most.

feettothestars I hope you can schedule in some nice things this week to help it pass.
I happen to have a hair appointment already booked on my day off on Monday.
So that will be nice.

Sending healing vibes x

feettothestars · 29/01/2022 17:19

Haircut is a good plan Smile
I've sorted some things with friends but my week is a bit empty so need to make some plans. Let me know how you get on.

feettothestars I hope you are doing ok?

I had a great trip to the hairdressers, lovely to get the roots done and a good cut.

My poor boob is very bruised and I've had a reaction to the two dressings so have red hives were the sticky was. Super itchy. Confused
What a sight!!!

Hope you are coping ok with the wait xx

Hi @Four4me

Your poor boob. My dressing comes off tomorrow but I can see black bruising underneath. It's more sore than previous biopsies I've had.

Yeah I'm coping badly Grin I have such bad health anxiety these days after years of surgery and bad luck. So it is feeling tortuous. Today I have called friends and started a jigsaw. I'm not working at the moment so little distraction. I've planned a walk with a friend and acupuncture tomorrow. My 6 year old is a comfort.

I think you get your results tomorrow. I wish you all the luck in the world and will be thinking of you.

feettothestars oh big hugs, health anxiety is the pits (any anxiety is). Keep busy and enjoy your little one. Lovely age.

The MDT is tomorrow, I'm not exactly sure when I'll hear, it was slightly vague. They'll be in touch at some point. I'm working from home tomorrow and in (work in a different hospital) Wednesday/Thursday.

Maybe I'm being naive, but feel ok. My eldest has downs and we went through birth diagnosis, which floored me. He is 18 now and things have not been half as terrifying as I was imagining, so we go one day at a time for most things.

Fingers crossed all round! Xxx

feettothestars · 31/01/2022 19:30

One day at a time is where it's at and I need to remind myself of this every 5 minutes.

Thanks for sharing about your son and waiting for results. I bet he's brilliant.

I've been through IVF and many many other waiting things (skin cancer - was alright and bcc and not melanoma but still a wait) but this feels particularly hard. I know I get mine in person at a set time. My previous lump I had to wait for a call and somehow that felt easier but I may have misremembered. I also had a baby as a distraction.

Posted too soon - none of the waiting is easier - I made a mess of that but voiding edit!. But I think I have got worse at waiting it out. I've been on the receiving end of dreadfully hard news pregnancy and baby wise so that's kind of set me up to expect it.

Can I really recommend a rescue remedy just to take the edge off the stress of waiting. It was the worst thing about the whole process was the waiting for results.

Justalittlebit10 · 31/01/2022 21:50

Hi
I am waiting too. Went just for a mammogram yesterday, bit early as I'm 45, but have a family history so I asked. Ended up having a core biopsy there and then. Waiting on results now. There was a 0.7 area that looked 'different'.
The waiting is awful isn't it. I went thinking there was nothing wrong, came out with 3 sets of mammograms, an ultrasound, a biopsy, and a titanium marker!

Justalittlebit10 · 31/01/2022 21:54

I have no dressing on mine, she just stuck a plaster on which I took off shortly after, should I have kept it on??

LostArcher · 31/01/2022 22:32

@Justalittlebit10 Yes, me too. Went in with a lump and then mammo and biopsy under ultrasound. I didn't even take anyone with me and went to work afterwards.
Still, if it is a something, they act pretty quickly. My tumour got sent off to California - yes really - to see if I needed chemo (I didn't)

Serendipity09 · 31/01/2022 22:40

@lostarcher I am sorry you have been through this too. Are you in the UK - seems crazy to send to California! But so good they act quickly.

@four4me have you heard anything yet? I'm still waiting.

@feettothestars, good luck tomorrow

feettothestars · 03/02/2022 19:10

@Justalittlebit10 my results came by telephone call this afternoon to tell me it was a fibroadenoma. The relief has been intense and I feel very grateful.
The wait has been brutal and I hope you don't have to wait much longer and that all will be well.

This is my third fibroadenoma but the first time I didn't know it was there and that felt more shocking. I have a follow up and will ask if there is anything different I should be doing when checking but I still can't find it so maybe you just can't find all things yourself. It has made me want to have more regular checks and given my lump tendency I will ask about follow up.

@Four4me I have been thinking of you and hope you're ok?

Thank you for everyone who has posted. And for any future person finding this, may your wait be as short as possible.

Aw thank you for asking. Just got home from work and a letter has come for an appointment on Tuesday with a breast consultant.
So not sure how to read that!! Would they send that out if it was a cyst?

feettothestars · 03/02/2022 19:13

@Four4me my cons sees all his patients and will be seeing me even though my lump is benign. His secretary said most cons like to follow up whatever the results so I hope that this is of some comfort and that it is a routine apt for you. This has also happened with my previous lumps.

Four4me · 03/02/2022 19:58

feettothestars fabulous news! You can relax now. I'm so pleased for you.
Thanks that's good to know.
I have met this consultant once before and he put me on the yearly mammogram list after my GP referred me on the family history protocol. He was really nice.
I'll keep you updated xxxx

Four4me · 03/02/2022 20:02

Justalittlebit10 I hope you are recovering well? My poor boob is still really bruised.
Subconsciously I keep rubbing the side of it!
I'm glad to get home and get into the bath. X

Justalittlebit10 · 03/02/2022 22:05

@four4me I was told that I will have to return for my results too, I just want to be told over the phone and not have that extra wait time though! I really hope all goes well on Tuesday for you.
I have no bruising at all and have had no pain, just very occasional stabbing sharp pain which lasts a split second.. . Have you had that? I'm hoping it's from the biopsy and not anything more sinister.

@feettothestars . Yay!! I'm so so pleased for you that's fabulous news :)

I'm tempted to call the nurse consultant from the breast clinic if I don't hear tomorrow, she did give me her number.

Justalittlebit10 · 04/02/2022 13:45

@four4me I had a letter today to see breast surgeon on Tuesday also. I called them and they said it's going to MDT this afternoon.

Four4me · 04/02/2022 13:49

Justalittlebit10 oh goodness we are waiting together. I've just been out for a nice lunch with a really good friend and had a giggle. Highly recommend it. Xx

Justalittlebit10 · 05/02/2022 11:45

@four4me ye, I went out for dinner with a friend Thursday evening abd it really helped. Hoping to meet a friend for a walk later too.
I'm really struggling though to be honest. I thought if all was OK I might get a call after b the MDT, but didn't :(
