Hi,

Don't know if this is just paranoia or is something we can help with.

Our breast fed DD - 3 weeks - is quite a quiet baby but whenever she has a poo/wind she has a strain, goes red in the face and cries. This lasts for about 30 seconds.

She has nappy rash - we use metanium - but the last bit doesn't seem to want to clear up. Her poos are usually quite 'wet' and she seems to do smaller ones more often - rather than big poos.

Is this normal and us being paranoid new parents?

Thanks

From memory I think this is normal. Their muscles are pretty immature so they have to make a huge effort - and don't they let you know about it!

It's all new sensations for her - utterly normal. Bfed babies also have v runny poo, which is normal too.

And it continues. When my 17 month old has a poo it is unmistakable. He looks directly at me, with a worried and slightly embarassed look on his face, and then slowly goes lobster red. It's so funny.
