Shingles vaccination causing shingles?

My friend had his shingles vaccination on Monday. He's now got awful shingles on his right flank. Is this a common complication of the vaccination? He's really quite unwell with it and in a lot of pain.

Shingles vaccine side effects

Like all vaccines, the shingles vaccines (Zostavax and Shingrix) can cause side effects, but they're generally mild and do not last long.

Common side effects that occur in at least 1 in 10 people are:

headache
redness, pain, swelling, itching and warmth at the injection site
fatigue
If any side effects carry on for longer than a few days, speak to your GP or practice nurse.

Tell your GP if you develop a rash after having the shingles vaccination.

Catching chickenpox from the shingles vaccine
Very occasionally, a person has developed chickenpox following shingles vaccination (fewer than 1 in 10,000 individuals).

The vaccine itself will not cause shingles. Has he been to his GP?

Why doesn't your friend Google this? Why didn't you? The NHS website is very helpful.

I did Google it, but didn't find anything useful. He's been to the GP this morning and been diagnosed with full blown shingles. He's got antivirals.

Did t think to look at the NHS website. 😖 doh!
