Clearning non-covid lung congestion

Since a few days ago I've had a kind of heavy congestion on my lungs that's really bothering me. I've tested negative but I'm not going anywhere anyway as feeling off-colour. Part of me wonders if the result was a false negative or if I had covid without knowing previously and this is the aftermath.

I've got a phone GP appointment on Monday but until then does anyone have any suggestions about anything OTC for clearing it? I don't have a cough but if I make myself cough something will "come up". It's very weird.

Hi @tulips27 I wonder if we have the same problem. Like you, I'm concerned about my breathing at the moment, my lungs feel very foggy and stuffy and like I can't get a proper breathing 'rhythm'. I find myself feeling quite anxious about my breathing as a result. No cough really - well, the very occasional bit of coughing that makes me think I have got one after all, but then it doesn't happen again. However, like you, if I make myself cough very minimally I get mucus coming up. And that's happening without making myself cough too. I actually woke up at about 3.30 am and can't get back to sleep, and neither can I get warm. I keep having to turn the heating up and still not feeling warm. I took a LFT but it was negative - they always are, even though I constantly feel poorly these days! But the breathing thing is worrying me now so I've booked a PCR for later this morning. I'm tired and look it, so I know something isn't right. Like you, I wonder if I've had Covid in the last few weeks and it hasn't shown up on the LFTs I've been doing, and now I've got some sort of complication.

I realise you posted on Saturday. How have you been feeling since then?

I'm a little better thanks but still with a lot of lung congestion. Sorry to hear you have the same thing. The GP has told me to get another test which I ordered yesterday and it's not arrived yet.

If you can't get warm that may mean you have a temperature- sometimes it makes you feel cold instead of warm, so you are doing the right thing having a PCR.

My friend got me some Benylin Mucus cough decongestant syrup which seems to help a little, you might want to try it. You have to buy it from behind the counter at a pharmacy because of the ingredients.

From your symptoms it sounds like you should speak with a doctor, too, especially as you mention breathing problems.

Morning both. I had covid in early December but my chest never cleared and I now have a never ending cough - tickly and phlegmy. Its awful. I'm convinced it relates back to the covid which weakened my chest 😪

I have a lung condition which can result in fluid on the lungs and I do lung clearing exercises. If you google lung clearance physio you will find some tips.
Essentially it involves very deep breathing in and slowly out. Then "huffing" to release the fluid. It works really well.

Bizarrely after covid my condition improved which I put down to the many drugs I was given in hospital.
