Fell over this morning, possible break?

Slipped over on ice this morning landing on my elbow, in a lot of pain when I bend my elbow, called my DM to take me for a X-ray but she refused to take me, she says because I can move it there’s no break? I have no one else to take me (single parent) and now DC’s are home and have no child care, dc have SEN so I can’t take them with me.

What’s the chance of it being broken? It’s less painful when straight, I can’t bend it to touch my nose without it making a crunching sound and hurting, there’s no swelling or bruising.

No one can possibly know.

You need to phone 111, they'll be able to give you advice. We had a video call from them to figure out whether DS needed seeing, it was reassuring.

Take some paracetamol and ibuprofen (if you can tolerate it and don't have asthma). Stagger the doses to cover the day. Rest your arm and ice it.

Screens and snacks for the kids and sit down and feel properly sorry for yourself. Hope it feesl better soon.

Is there a minor injuries unit you can go to?

Lovemusic33 · 21/01/2022 15:47

No, all minor injuries here have been closed due to staff shortages 😭. That’s why I wanted to go earlier today before A&E gets busy over the weekend. I think I will just have to sit it out and hope it feels better in the next day or 2. The dc will be at their dads on Sunday so I maybe able to go then if I’m still in pain.

I fractured my elbow and was told it was ok but had it rexrayed after a few days as was still very painful and discovered it was indeed fractured. No swelling or bruising or other outward sign though.

can you contact the children's father, as this needs attention.
you will be no good with/for the children if you make it worse by ignoring it, delaying treatment.
ring 111 now.

He won’t take the DC’s unless it’s on his contact days (he’s pretty useless).

How's the elbow feeling today? I broke my elbow 5 weeks ago. I fell and was able to carry on pushing buggy although was in a lot of pain. Felt worse that night so the next morning I called 111, sent to a and e and fracture confirmed. They gave me a sling but that's all they will do. I'm still in pain with it now although can only take paracetamol as I'm breastfeeding, not sure what painkillers you'd get otherwise. I had to go back after 3 weeks to check it's healing well which it is thankfully. The pain has been so bad it's woken me through the night, I couldn't straighten or bend mine, was at a very wonky angle and I had no bruising at all.

I am able to move it a bit better today, in some positions it feels fine and in others it’s painful but over all it feels a bit better. Mines not wonky, seems ok when my arms out straight but then if I go to try and touch my head it hurts and feels weird (clicky).
