How do I know if my finger's broken?!

Shut the end of my index finger in the car door earlier. Ice on it straight away, huge bruise and A LOT of pain.

A few hours later and it is still incredibly painful.

How do I know if it might be broken, and will the walk in centre/ GP be able to do anything?

Thanks!

I would go to a walk in centre that has x-ray personally. Don’t think the GP would be able to do anything except send you for an x-ray.

Need to go for an X-ray.
So walk in if they have an X-ray machine or a&e

DD did exactly the same a few weeks ago. We went to a walk in with X-ray the next day, they ruled out a fracture but drained the blood from under the nail which made it much more comfortable

You have my sympathy. Finger injuries are so painful. You have so many nerves in your fingers.

I think you do really need an x ray. You need to know if anything is broken and ensure it's going to heal in the right position.

If it's the very tip, I don't think they'll do much unless it's out of alignment. I'd call 111 and see what they say, personally. Shorter queues that way.

Thanks, will call 111 or find an x-ray machine!

I broke the tip of my finger last summer (dog bite unfortunately) and they ummed and aahed about whether to pin it back together. In the end (after reattaching the tip of my fingertip 🤢) they left it. I assume it's knitted back together but I have no idea although I have no feeling in my fingertip any longer but that's not to do with the broken bone, more my severed finger.
