Changing mole

I have an appointment with my GP later on this week for something unrelated so I'll bring it up with him but for now, just needing to be talked down after consulting Dr Google.

I have had a light brown mole on my back for a few years. It was about the size of a 5 pence piece and completely flat & smooth, pretty insignificant.
However, I noticed a few weeks ago that it's probably 75% bigger and over the last couple of days, has developed a 'crust', some of which has started flaking off.

Obviously when googling moles, the C word comes up and because of how much it's changed (although it's not changed colour, still light brown), I'm having a bit of a panic.

Has anyone had anything similar which has turned out to be nothing?

Quite possibly a sebhorreic keratosis, completely benign, but get your GP to have a look when you go. (I have loads of them, but I’m 74, and they tend to come with age!)

I had similar, not quite as big, but changed as you describe. Also on my back.

Had it removed as a precaution, it turned out to be a dysplastic naevus (I think that’s the spelling!) and nothing to worry about. It was a simple procedure, a few stitches, a bit uncomfortable as it was on my back, but not painful.

Always worth having it checked, I’ve now had 3 removed altogether over the years, and my mum has had diagnosed skin cancer including skin grafts (all fine now) so I’m probably more cautious.

Thank you both!
That's reassuring to know. I do have other moles but none of them have ever changed shape/appearance which is why this has made me worry a little.

Hopefully nothing to stress about though!
