Cough .. will GP give me anything?

Came down with what I thought was a straightforward cold on New year's Eve, so about 2.5 weeks ago.
After about 5 days I developed a really bad cough. Fine for hours and then really intense coughing that makes me dizzy sometimes. Keeping me up in the night with coughing fits. I'm so tired and no-one to pick up the slack.

Bit of sputum but not loads. One clogged up ear which I can't hear out of very well.

Not covid. Have had a PCR. No wheezing.

Is it just a cough? Or what? Is it worth trying to get some treatment? OTC stuff makes no difference.

Definitely worth a call.
Our nurse practitioner has been listening to chests and prescribing for coughs, it’s worth them having a look in your ear too.
I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Oh goodness I could have written this myself.
Did you see gp ? Did he give you anything?

Goawayangryman · 19/01/2022 10:47

Yes, spoke to GP - acute bronchitis, apparently loads of it about (am in SW London.

They won't generally give e.g., steroids or antibiotics unless you've got underlying conditions apparently. I'm coming to the end of week three and it's finally getting better now. I self-treated with night nurse and my DD's old ventolin inhaler but not recommending that as it's naughty

Reanimating this, as I'm still wonky.

As above, had bronchitis since new year's eve, acute symptoms of the cough have now gone though I am still snotty and coughing in the mornings and evenings. Yellowish sputum.

That, I can cope with and I don't feel very systemically unwell.

However... I've now got the most godawful pain in my left hand side at the bottom of my rib cage. It's very tender to touch around the border of my lower ribs, ibuprofen not doing a great deal. Coughing and even blowing my nose is really painful. Leaning forward likewise.

Don't think it is costochondritis (sp?) as it is on the outside of my chest (where my arm hangs down if you see what I mean) and from what I can see online, that is normally near to your breastbone.

Obviously I will go see the doctor as it is really limiting what I can do. To make matters worse, I have a young, large breed, extremely strong dog and it is really hard to do any proper heelwork/ training with her at the moment - no partner to pick up the slack.....

Grateful for any advice or ideas as I wait for a GP appt.
