Cefalexin and it's (horrific) side effects

Since Oct 21 I have had a recurring UTI which over Christmas spread to my kidneys. In this time I've had 3 days trimethoprim and 7 days nitrofurantoin (from the walk in over Christmas). Currently have covid but UTI was causing me bother so rang the docs. Had an app with a nurse who said they really shouldn't give me any antibiotics until I've sent a sample off (can't as isolating) but she decided she would prescribe 3 x 500mg cefalexin for 7 days anyways.

I am over half way through the course and have been in agony - intense stomach cramps have got me in agony, vomiting and generally dizzy and unwell (on top of the covid symptoms Sad)

Has anybody had these side effects? I am concerned incase it's not actually the antibiotics causing it! Obviously want to finish the course regardless but am in so much pain

I’d phone the surgery again and ask to be put on the duty Drs list to discuss the side effects you are having to the medication you’ve been prescribed.

Nausea and diarrhoea are common, so I imagine stomach cramps would be due to that, but agony and vomiting don’t sound right.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers
