Cyst removal - does it hurt after?

I have a large cyst on my ovary and will be having keyhole surgery (hopefully!) to remove it. The Dr said that they may have to be more invasive if it doesn't work.

Does anyone have experience of this? Was it painful afterwards? Could you go to work the next day?

You won’t be able to go back to work the next day because you will still be tired from the anaesthetic and laparoscopic surgery leaves you feeling a bit sore and swollen.

You also likely won’t sleep very well as the gas they fill your abdomen with, so they can see inside you, can cause some discomfort as it disperses. You may also be constipated due to morphine/lack of moving/co codamol painkillers so maybe get some fybogel in or dulcoease (NOT dulcolax!) in so you don’t suffer too much discomfort.

I was fine around 4/5 days after keyhole but couldn’t wear anything except joggers for the first half of the week due to swelling.

I didn't have a cyst removed but I did have similar surgery. I was in pain for about 2 days and then just niggles for about another 5 days. I was expecting to be back at work after one week but they signed me off for 2 weeks and insisted I take the 2 weeks. I could definitely gone back before though.

Thanks both; looks like I might be off for longer than I though then.

Shoulder top pain was worse than the abdo pain. I'd plan to be off work for at least 2-3 days afterwards

My laparoscopy recoveries genuinely were more painful then c section and other surgeries, give yourself a week of being out of sorts (4 days I reckon of quite intense pain)

I ended up being off for 3 weeks! I booked 2 weeks off (as per the consultant) but still couldn't really bend and move much so had to have another weeks off. I had quite an active job though. I should have been in hospital one night but ended up in for 2 as couldn't move. My cyst was big though and I think they only just managed to get it out via keyhole!

I booked 2 weeks off but went back to work after a week (well working from home to avoid commute)

Can't think I was in much pain after 2-3 days, just walked slowly but would have been okay to work with laptop on lap at that stage.

Keep dosed up on painkillers. Move when you can to help get rid of the wind. Rest and sleep when you need to. I was signed off for 2 weeks. Good luck
