What's wrong with my ear?

6 months ago I was exposed to a loud noise and immediately felt something in my ear. My ear still doesn't feel right, like it's heavy / blocked. Any ideas what it could be? GP said sinus problems or inflammation and prescribed something (phone consultation), but the pharmacist said that doesn't sound right and even if it was, the medication he has prescribed doesn't help with that! Thank you.

Hi @myear, we're just giving your thread a bump in case anyone's around to give you some advice. Flowers

Could it have burst with the loud noise? I'd try to demand a face to face appointment.

Have you damaged your ear drum if you felt something after a loud noise. The dr needs to actually look into your ear

What did he prescribe?

Thank you all! I have been prescribed Otomize, it's an ear spray. I did question whether it is possible for my ear to become immediately inflamed when I heard the loud noise as it happened in my ear instantly, and the GP said yes.

Could you go to a walk in place and have it looked at, or ask your GP over the phone for an ENT referral. Have you had any fluid coming out? I would be wary of using a spray unless you're sure the ear drum is ok and intact.

I think optomise is for inflammation and infection which may not be the cause, I agree you should get seen and not use a spray until they see inside your ear.

Thank you all for your advice. Just wanted to update, I think my ear is fine now. The nurse agreed to look at my ear and saw my ear drum was slightly inflamed, so I continued to use the Otimize on a reduced basis. I have a feeling that the Otomize caused it in the first place but at least my ear is ok now!
