Blood Test Results - Urea & Electrolytes 139

I had a load of general blood tests & just got the results. All normal except low iron (which I already know - hideous heavy periods due to fibroids which I'm being treated for). Was also told my urea & electrolytes was 139 which was "ok" but I need to discuss with doctor. Receptionist said normal range 133-146 so lower end of normal?!! She really didn't seem to have a clue and was only reading off the screen so I googled and it seems those numbers relate to sodium levels. I'm actually surprised I'm on the low side as I love crisps & salty foods. I'm also guilty of not drinking enough water - those scores suggest I drink too much?! Any ideas? Should I be worried? I have health anxiety. I would add that I am absolutely ADDICTED to rocket salad and eat at least a bag a day and have done for several years. I'm wondering if that would affect this as contains nitrates. I have a phone call with doctor but not for another week so any ideas while I wait?

Thanks.

Saying your Urea and electrolytes is confusing, the 139 must be a specific level of an electrolyte. The receptionist should not be telling you your blood results and clearly does not know what they mean. I would ring back and either ask to speak to a doctor or nurse to read the result correctly and put your mind at rest.

If the reference range is 133-146 and your result is 139 then that’s slap bang in the middle of the acceptable range. Neither high nor low. That’s a normal result, surely?!

Thanks - I'm pretty sure it relates to sodium which is an electrolyte. I do have a call with the doctor next week so sure she'll explain.

Panic over. Doctor called. Hadn't realised I'd already called in and was calling to let me know about my low iron & that she'd done a prescription. I asked about the urea result and she said all it meant was that I was a bit dehydrated and she'd written "ok" to reassure so was sorry if the receptionist's comment had caused anxiety. She confirmed that, apart from low iron, results entirely normal. Phew!

Thats good, but urea is not sodium so I am not surprised you got confused.
