Gallbladder removal

Hi
I'm due to have my gallbladder removed soon but I have huge health anxiety! I hate hospital and the thought of this is making me so stressed and nervous.
Can anyone tell me what tests I will have at my pre-op which is coming up soon. I haven't been given a lot of info. And will they still do my surgery, even if my heart is beating a million miles an hour during my tests because I am so scared?! I know I sound crazy...

Pr op is height, weight, confirmation of the medication you are on and a blood test. Explain when you go in you have health anxiety and ask if its possible to have a relaxant before your op. This will likely be a diazepam which will just take the edge off.

@Kshhuxnxk thank you so much for this. Would I also need an ECG? I thought I read this somewhere and really not keen on having this done as I get so stressed just having my BP taken!

The pre op is to make sure that you're well enough to undergo surgery. It's height and weight. I don't remember having an ecg, but even if you do they just out sticky odd on you and you live down for a few minutes, something like yoga breaths would help control anxiety. This is also the time to raise any fears about the op you may have.

Hi I had my gallbladder out 18 months ago, I had height, weight, blood tests and ecg a week before my surgery. Then covid test 48 hours before. I was in and out in 8 hours. Surgery was great and I have had no pain since recovery!

Also meant to say they did my ecg at the end after id calmed down as it was a really hot day and I was stressed and it was honestly fine

Thank you all. I am so nervous, not sure I'll make it through without passing out from the stress of it all! Are there any major healthy anxiety suffers who have been through something similar?

I had my gallbladder out last year and it was such a quick simple opp. Had it out in the morning and was back home by lunch time. Took 3 days off work as was key hole surgery and had no pain. It really is a simple opp and tiny little scars.

Abs811 · 11/01/2022 11:07

@FitAt50 can you tell me more about the tests you had befor the op? It's the tests which make me nervous, I know it sounds silly, but think it's all part of my health anxiety. Thanks

Hi I had mine out recently. Pre op was height, weight, blood tests and asking about medication I was on. No ECG. Hope that helps x

FitAt50 · 11/01/2022 11:13

They only took my height, weight and blood pressure and that was it. They did an ultrasound a few weeks before to diagnose the gallstones and that was easy but rather cold with the gell they put on.

iwonttaketheeasyroad · 11/01/2022 11:13

Oh and blood pressure probably

mdh2020 · 11/01/2022 11:15

They only do an ECG if you are over a certain age.
