Quick Calpol/Ibuprofen/Medised question ..... baby screaming - need help!

dd 5.5months - has blocked nose/rotten cold and can't get herself to sleep. She was awake a lot of the night and has missed her morning nap and is now tired, frustrated and probably feeling horrid.

If I gave her 2 doses of Calpol during the day and 2 Medised at night - can she also take Ibuprofen on top of that?

I already have Olbas oil and nasal drops.

She looks so sad

Ok so just read it again - did you give her the calpol yesterday? And the medised last night? If so then she can have some more now, as long as she hasnt had any since 5? I think

zipoid · 24/12/2007 10:38

Yes- she can have ibuprofen as well but it can be quite irritant to the stomach so try to give after a feed.

I hope things improve

Myrrhcy · 24/12/2007 10:38

Tbh I would only recommend Ibuprofen if she has a temperature.

Saline drops might help the nose or one of those snot sucker things.

Hope she feels better soon. It'horrible when babies have colds

thanks everyone - she's happyish sitting up with me although she's knackered - just hate seeing her so unhappy
Merry christmas!!

It depends when you gave her the last dose. As I understand it Ibuprofen is good for getting a temp down. I personally would stick with medised esp if she is very blocked up and not sleeping. My DS2 has had a cold for about 6 weeks and both the doc and pharasist said it was the best thing for them.

Try running a hot bath and sit in bathroom for 15 min - also I found propping up the cot a bit helped.

If all else fails - take her to bed with you and snuggle together if you can.

Good luck!

Sit in a warm bath with her, that will help clear her nose, we found it really helpful with DS

Also, try rolling up a towel and putting it under one end of the mattress so her head is slightly elevated when she sleeps.

pippyLS, great minds!

thanks guys - she's now playing with her daddy and looking much happier (with snot streaming down her face!

I think we will just keep her occupied until her next feed - then go with some Medised before her afternoon nap - at least if she gets one good nap today she shouldn't be the too grumpy this afternoon.

Bath this afternoon - good excuse for me to have a nice bath too!

Thanks for all the advice - hopefully the snot will have retreated by tomorrow!
