Does ringworm always have a ring around it?

I have had a patch of problem skin on the bottom of my calf for ages now. It is in a circle and is itchy (but not all the time). I do have a dog (though he doesn't have ringworm) but I am traipsing through god knows what bog most days with him and he does get incredibly muddy and need cleaning.

It's not clearing up - I wouldn't say causing me huge problems either but would be good to solve it! It doesn't appear to have a ring round the edge but does ringworm always have that ring?

It could be discoid eczema? That sometimes has a bit of a raised edge but not all the way round. Worth considering esp if creams for ringworm haven’t worked

HappyThursdays · 06/01/2022 12:32

ooh thanks, have just googled that and it does look a bit like that! will try some other creams for eczema and see what happens

Ringworm is fungus not a worm, so it normally grows outward like a fairy ring on grass. It doesn't have to look like a definiteing.

ThePlantsitter · 06/01/2022 12:34

Put a bit of canestan on it. If it clears up it was fungal (like ringworm, though I think you can have other fungal things too)

Magicmagician · 06/01/2022 12:35

Good luck - my dd was prescribed a mild steroid cream (sorry I can’t remember which one!) for it and the patches disappeared really quickly, we had to keep using the cream for a few days after just to make sure it was gone.

dementedpixie · 06/01/2022 12:36

Have you been using antifungal cream on it?

HappyThursdays · 06/01/2022 12:40

yes I had some anti fungal stuff for athlete's foot in the cupboard so have been putting it on to see if it went away but it hasn't as yet

it's a really awkward place to look at - it's not getting any bigger that's for sure but it's not going away if that makes sense

don't want to bother anyone medical with it as it's so minor

I have some eumovate in the cupboard so can try that next, thanks
