Swollen uvula...feeling something stuck in throat

I've had this feeling that something is stuck at the back of my throat for a couple of day. Just had a look in the mirror and it looks like the uvula (thing that dangles in middle of throat) keeps touching my tongue, especially when I lie down, and I get this chocking sensation. I had covid a couple of weeks ago so don't know if it's anything to do with that. I'm scared to go to sleep in case I choke. Please reassure me, I have awful health anxiety

I had this the week before Christmas! It is a very peculiar and uncomfortable feeling, but as long as your airway is clear it is not dangerous. Mine went down after 3 days, and was back to normal within a week. I found tilting my head back slightly helped as the uvula was not touching my tongue so much.

Hope that helps

Amiable · 05/01/2022 22:48

Oh, and you will not choke in your sleep as the uvula is not blocking the airway

Just keep an eye on it. If it looks like it’s being pushed to one side, particularly if your throat is v sore, you could have quinsy- which needs medical attention.

Is your uvula actually larger than normal? Are you tonsils swollen, red, of covered in spots/pus? How are you feeling in yourself otherwise? Have you ever had tonsilloliths? I get these sometime in 1 tonsil and it feels like something stuck a the back of my throat/on the side.

Thanks @Amiable that's reassuring. Do you know what caused yours? I'm currently taking antibiotics for a chest infection after covid and wondering if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks @VaguelyInteresting I've not heard of Quinsey - I'll have a Google. Throat not sore or painful just feels funny like something is stuck. DH has had a look and said it all looks okay in my mouth

I've had this before when I had tonsillitis. It is very peculiar & DH said I snored like a walrus 🤣 Was gone in a couple of days though. Ibuprofen helped.

I feel okay in myself and DH had a look at throat and says all looks ok, he's not. Medic or anything. I've had tonsil stones before but this feels different and I can't see anything when I look, could they be hid and not noticeable

I need my eyes testing! I was trying to work out why having a swollen vulva would cause you to feel like you had something stuck in your throat Blush

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 05/01/2022 23:09

I had this with pharyngitis. I think I gargled with salt water and took piriton. I may have had antibiotics but I can't remember

BeckyWithTheGoodHair010101 · 05/01/2022 23:12

I get a swollen uvula regularly with sore throats. Gargle with difflam and take nurofen and paracetamol (not at the same time, staggered!)

It's not as bad today so I'm wondering if it's anxiety causing it
