Abdominal aortic aneurysm- so worried

Chocolateislife123 · 04/01/2022 21:47

I went to the doctors today as I could feel a lump in my abdomen that was pulsing. She felt it and straight away said it is nothing to worry about and is just my aorta pulsing. She said I can probably feel it more as I have slight diastasis recti from having two children. I googled after and am now worried incase I have an abdominal aortic aneurysm as one symptom is pulsing above the belly button which is what I have.
I am early 30s, non smoker, healthy and slim build. However, my mum died from an aortic dissection when she was 50 so I get worried whenever it is anything to do with the heart.
Would I be unreasonable to go back to the doctor and request an ultrasound to check? Or can other people feel a pulsing (kind of asking for reassurance too) 😭😭 thank you for any help.

Do you suffer from health anxiety, OP?
I've had feelings like this for many years and I'm still here! The exact same symptoms as you.
If your GP has checked and thinks there's nothing to worry about, I'd trust them.

I'm a slim build, and I get this too. If I'm lying in the bath with the water over my abdomen, I can see it gently pulsing 😀

I have the same. I was in hospital recently for something else and a nurse was really concerned that she could see my abdomen moving….10 minutes later I was having ultrasounds etc…consultant came in and said “you’re just lucky to be slim!”
Like pp…if I lay in the bath I can see it gently pulsing away.

I would go back to the GPS but see a different one... explain to the dr why you're so worried ...

Greybeardy · 04/01/2022 22:41

You’re supposed to be able to feel your aorta pulse.

itwasntaparty · 04/01/2022 22:49

I'm not slim and I can see mine.

Do you suffer with anxiety?

Have you mentioned your mum’s aortic dissection? They might give you an ultrasound but I guess you are too young to worry about it at the moment. Or you could have one done privately to put your mind at rest.

I have this same thing, can see it in the bath. I was also a bit worried for a bit but it's been a while now so I figured it's normal in some people?

My mum had an AAA - it was found in time to operate although she lost part of her bowel in the process. I would definitely ask for an ultrasound scan, or go privately if you can't get one. If only for peace of mind.
