Why do I keep getting tonsil stones

I had a chest infection a couple of weeks ago, had lots of coughing and phlegm and ever since I have had tonsil stones. They are disgusting and make me heave and feel sick. It happens a couple of times a day. I brush my teeth regularly, use a mouthwash and just started gargling with salt water...none are helping.
Any ideas what might help

Hi there!

I used to get these. I had HUGE tonsils, always the first thing to give when I got sick. Because they were so big, they were pretty battered over the years and this caused dents/hollows in them. My dentist told me that food was getting caught in these hollows and that’s what was causing the tonsil stones. The only way (I believe) you can ensure they don’t come back is to get your tonsils removed. Otherwise, what you’re currently doing is the next best bet!

Good luck!

I get them quite a lot and my tonsils are full of craters from years and years of suffering with tonsillitis. I find nothing more satisfying then popping them out with a crochet hook. Although the first time I did it I gagged and vommed because it landed on my tongue. I had one the other week that seemed to keep refilling every time I popped the tonsil stone out of it.
