I've singed my mooncup - can I still use it?

I'm a bit tired hungover and I left it boiling until there was no water left, it's now brown but still seems intact. Do you reckon it's OK to use? I'd be lost without it I HATE tampons...

is it still the same shape? are the little holes still little holes?

ninja · 22/12/2007 10:40

Good question about the holes I'll go and look.... Yes and Yes, smells a bit well burned and looks like it's been in the sun too long. They must be pretty tough, do you reckon it's OK then?

is the surface still smooth and undamaged? You need to make sure it can;t harbour bacteria.

ScarletA · 22/12/2007 10:43

I reckon it'll be ok. Test is to try it and see...

They are made from silicon I think - do a google on the effects of singeing silicon and see what it comes up with.

BBBee · 22/12/2007 10:44

if it is exactly the same just a different colour I would go for it.

In future sterlise in microwave - much easier for the loose of mind!

BBBee · 22/12/2007 10:45

'go for it' seems a little inappropiate somehow...

ninja · 22/12/2007 10:49

I'll give it a go - I was thinking it might be handy to have a spare, so maybe now's the time can you get them on the high street now?

OP posts:
BBBee · 22/12/2007 10:50

my boots has them and the local chemist. £20.

CharlieAndLolasMummy · 22/12/2007 10:55

sorry bit this is easily the best title I've seen in ages. oh I LOVE MN

(I have no idea btw )

ninja · 22/12/2007 10:56

Rather a festive period than festive PMT (and my belly will be flatter!!)

OP posts:
BBBee · 22/12/2007 10:59

lol 'festive pmt'

it would be like this ->

margoandjerry · 22/12/2007 11:11

I was slightly about how it might have got singed....until I realised you were boiling it. Had visions of some sort of erotic dance involving flame throwing

ninja · 22/12/2007 13:20

yes, actually I was embarrased to tell you about the flaming ping pong balls trick that I'm trying to perfect!!

OP posts:
nannyL · 22/12/2007 13:49

this is the reason while i sterilise mine in milton solution

i just know i would it in pan!

nannyL · 22/12/2007 13:51

meant to say melt it in pan

yulemoonfiend · 22/12/2007 13:51

At least you didn't singe your minge while attempting to insert it...

devondoris · 23/12/2007 09:14

Mmmm. I'm thinking you're very good to be sterilising in the first place. I think I've done mine once or twice since I got it.

You could always ring the nurse's number (on their website), but I think I'd use it and see what happened. Check for tears and abrasions tho! I'm wondering if it may alter the structure of the silicon and make it less flexible which may make it less comfortable? And yes you can get them in lots of places now - we sell them in our shop (health food shop in Ashburton). Not sure that I like the new bags though - I liked it when everyone got different coloured and patterned bags. All part of the excitement of owning a mooncup!

HabbiChristmasToBu · 23/12/2007 09:17

Can I just add my congratulations for the most intriguing must-click thread title of the morning?

turquoise · 23/12/2007 09:38

PMSL - this title must make the home page

beagle101 · 23/12/2007 20:22

Not only the greatest thread title seen to date BUT educational too - obviously I have been living under a rock but I have never even heard of a mooncup before!

I too hate tampons but also hate pads (not least as dd found a pack and discovered the 'nice gluey soft paper' inside and decided to turn them into 'art' which she contiunally wants placed on the fridge (she's just turned 3 this week and doesn't quite get it!)

Sooooo - mooncups then - just googled them - they look mighty uncomfortable (although that may be because I have no prespective on size - they look like the size of a MUG!) - are they any good, can I finally get rid of horrible tampons?

lulu25 · 23/12/2007 20:25

aha ahahahahaha brilliant thread title

silicon spatulas go a bit discoloured after a while but they don't disintegrate or anything so i reckon you'll be fine

frostythesnowmum · 23/12/2007 20:25

OMG I've been watching too much Chubby Brown when I read the title my immediate thought was that someone had gone down on you with a fag still in their mouth - can't believe my own thoughts someone please point me in the direction of help

hatwoman · 23/12/2007 20:25

I've never sterlised mine - on the basis that I never sterilised my cap. and it doesn't tell you to (for caps I mean). wash in warm soapy water. rinse. jobs done. and no risk of singeing.

onepieceoflollipop · 23/12/2007 20:25

beagle don't think chunky mug in terms of size. Think dainty sherry glass (very rough guide though!)

Sorry nothing to add apart from rofl to original thread. I always try to set the timer on the cooker to avoid mishaps like this but could happen to anyone.

HabbiChristmasToBu · 23/12/2007 20:33

beagle - mooncups are marvellous - comfortable, practical, clean (if you don't saute them). Franny will answer all your mooncup questions if she's around. Can't believe she hasn't found this thread yet...
