DF having investigations

DF has had a CT scan and they have found some nodules on his back (not on the spine). He has had a biopsy and has received a letter from the scanning department, so not result of biopsy. The letter says "... findings are non specific but the differential includes lymphoma". His liver, spleen and one of his kidneys are ok.

Does anyone know what this means?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi OP, I think it means that they can see the nodules but not directly identify what they are (non-specific). One option (differential) could be lymphoma… but there could also be other options. Scans are good at finding breaks in bones etc or finding lumps but not good enough to know what the lumps are. The biopsy will let you know, I know it’s so hard but try not to worry at this stage. Do you know when the biopsy results will come back?

Thank you so much for your reply and explanation. He has to wait until the Consultant appointment on the 17th of January. He called the GP today to see if they had any more information but they refused to see him or speak to him and he's so anxious. He is very weak and wobbly and has lost a lot of weight. He also has back pain. The Consultant said it was a strange place to have a nodule , ie not on the spine but to the side of it. He could feel it on his back. Feels like a long wait.

Sorry to hear that you’re still waiting, yes usually the person/team who request the scan are the ones who deliver the results-otherwise it can all get too confusing! They should be able to help him manage his symptoms though, like pain, while he waits however. Has he got some good pain relief? You may have already done this but do call the consultants secretary and explain that he would be happy to take a cancellation at short notice to bring the appt forward… waiting is so horrible, my heart goes to you all.

Thank you MrsDora. I hadn't thought about calling the Consultant's secretary to ask about a cancellation. Biopsy was done on the 29th so I'm imagining the results must be available shortly. I appreciate your kind thoughts.
