My 13yr old Brother lives in Turkey with my Mum and Dad.
mum text me earlier to see if i could find out what could be wrong with him.

She said When he runs or bangs himself he feels like he is being pricked with needles mainly on his arms, top of legs and face. He twitches a lot with it too and is scratching when it happens.

Been getting worse over the last 6 wks.
Recently had routine Hep B jab done at his Turkish school.

Also had a growth spurt!

Any ideas? I think Mum is getting worries now.
TIA.

Hmm that itchy skin thing relating to liver/kidney function, rings a bell...Hep is liver related, non?

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 21/12/2007 17:05

I wouldn't have a clue TBH.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 21/12/2007 17:10

Any other thoughts?

Hmmm....could be lots of things.

When you say pricked with needles do you mean pins & needles tingling or being stabbed with needles?

Does it affect his arms, face & legs simulatenously or does it depend on where he has banged?

Is it just since the HepB?

TBH I think a Dr is the best person to advise - it certainly doesn't sound normal

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 21/12/2007 18:50

I took it to mean like being pricked with a needle.
Not sure if all at the same time or not.But thats how it reads on text.
Yes, only since Heb B jab. I am sure it won't of been his 1st, they have lived there for 2 years and are done every 6mths out there.

The only recorded side effects of the HepB according to google are mild flu like sypmtoms & anaphylaxis - it doesn't sound like either of those.

The symptoms are quite diverse.

Twinkly is right though - HepB is a liver condition and itching can also be a liver condition. The 2 don't sound related to me though.

The other sympoms sound neurological though....although I am sure there are many many many other causes.

I think a trip to the Dr is necessary I'm afraid.

He gets it in other places but mainly arms, legs and face worse.
Its everywhere each time.
Could it be stress due to moving into their new villa soon/uptight about Christmas? I wouldn't of thought that would cause those syptoms though.

SleighlyMadSanta · 22/12/2007 10:14

Sorry I didn;t get back.

I have never syuffered an ill effects of HepB vaccine (as an adult).

There are no major side effects according to google...but that doesn't mean there aren't any. It could howveer be pure co-incidence and because of the timing you are trying to link it to the HepB

I think hte safest thing is to see a Dr who can check it put properly. I don't think it should be left though.

As a symptom that pricking feeling called paresthesia (although parasthesia is a fairly wide-ranging category).

Really, it could be almost anything from a trapped nerve to a brain tumour. He really needs to get it checked out by a doctor.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 22/12/2007 17:32

Thanks, will advise Mum to see a Dr with him.
I think she is putting it down to stress.

She said the Dog growled at him the other day and scared him. He got the syptoms then for about 2 mins.

Yesterday it lasted 5mins when it happened.

She is going to see how he goes over the next few days because they have nearly no money and Dr has to be paid for out there.
