Stomach issues

I know the best course of action is going to my GP but it's impossible to get an appointment just now.

On Sunday we had a Chinese and a couple of hours later I started getting a pain in my upper stomach. I assumed heartburn but the pain intensified through the night the point where I was considering calling an ambulance. I was then sick and the pain subsided a bit.

I have been in pain ever since, I've been taking gaviscon to no relief so unsure if it's acid reflux related. I've been eating bland food since Sunday. Last night the pain was really bad and this morning I've been sick again.

Can anyone offer any advise?

I get this too, I've been diagnosed with gallstones. It's worse when I've eaten a heavy meal.

Gallstones

mdh2020 · 30/12/2021 09:16

Definitely gallstones and you do need to see the GP and have a scan. i ignored my symptoms (too busy looking after everyone else) and when I did eventually have an ultrasound I was told the gall bladder was in danger of perforating. The operation to remove it is relatively minor and I wasn’t even in hospital overnight.

I've called the doctor and waiting for a call back. I feel so helpless

@DeepfriedPizza it's horrible, I've had my symptoms over a year and they've really flared up badly again recently. Hopefully you get sorted with a scan soon. I'm on lansoprazole to neutralise the stomach acids so they might offer you something like that in the meantime.

DeepfriedPizza · 30/12/2021 17:48

The doctor thinks is acid and has prescribed lansopropazol

@KurtWildesChristmasNamechange can I ask, do you have confirmed stones and are you on the waiting list for surgery?

Abs811 · 10/01/2022 15:07

@DeepfriedPizza how are you feeling now? I have the same issues when eating a fatty meal

DeepfriedPizza · 10/01/2022 16:12

I'm feeling OK. Not a lot of pain any more. I'm just really bloated all the time.

@Abs811 I have confirmed stones, they showed up as sludge in 2020 but as actual stones in December last year. No mention of surgery at all, I was told 'no action' by the receptionist and when I asked if I could discuss it with the doctor was told there were no appointments available 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thankfully my symptoms have settled down with the Lansoprazole but I can't take them indefinitely so I'm assuming when they run out it'll all flare up again.

I had that.
Scan showed sludge and stones, on sonography report it says "gallbladder normal" Hmm
I'm managing with diet and various supplements and what have you (peppermint tea my magic medicine tbh!)

OP- Def push for a scan. If it's gallstones it's easy to solve but won't get better just manageable.

KurtWilde · 11/01/2022 18:49

@PAFMO I thought about trying peppermint tea, my lansoprazole run out in a few days so I'll grab some next time I'm out

Honestly I didn't believe something not "medical" would make a difference. But it really does with me. Slightest gripe and I make some. It was easier over the summer as I kept a jug of cold in the fridge and slugged it all day, it's harder now. I should make myself drink a couple of cups every day really. I have peppermint oil capsules from Holland and Barrett too, but I don't think they're as effective as the tea. I also take apple cider vinegar supplements from H&B.

@PAFMO you've been more help in ideas for managing it than 18 months of doctors! I'll definitely try those

I'm in a FB group called Gallbladder Support, it's been brilliant, can also recommend digestive enzymes. I knew nothing about gallbladders this time last year! I'll find the link to the FB page and bring it ovrg- it's run by an American guy and aside from the chat there's lots of info sheets and diet advice etc.
