Just found lump in breast

I've had an ache in my left breast for a couple of weeks how. Finding it difficult to sleep on left side. Just found a lump when I was rubbing it to ease the ache. On the side closest to arm, quite deep down, in line with the nipple. Ive been unwell recently with flu like symptoms. Not covid. Is this probably just a swollen lymph node or anything to worry about? I can be quite the drama Queen. Ive got a very sore throat just now, neg covid if that's any relevance.

What's the best thing to do? Keep an eye or try get seen by gp?

GP. Tomorrow. Probably nothing. But always, always better safe than sorry Flowers

LizzieSiddal · 28/12/2021 21:39

Hi, yes make a GP appointment as soon as you can, just to get it checked.

Just to reassure you, I’ve found two lumps in the past and they were both cysts.

BootySOS · 28/12/2021 21:40

They will see you very quickly. And refer to breast clinic.

LizzieSiddal · 28/12/2021 21:40

Just to add I was refers both times by the GP to the breast clinic, so don’t panic if that happens. The vast majority of woman referred to the clinic do not have matching to worry about.

LizzieSiddal · 28/12/2021 21:41

Excuse typos!

emsmar · 28/12/2021 21:43

Awh thank you! Will call them tomorrow. I'm 100% sure it's just something silly. But better safe than sorry. I hate the feeling of potentially time wasting at the moment, that was stopping me!

No you won’t be time wasting at all. Tell the receptionist what the problem is and that you’re worried, and they should see you pretty quickly.

As already been said book appointment tomorrow. I get these quite alot but it's best to get checked. With me it starts with painful armpit then painful lump or lumps will appear. I had a bad time with them in Jan when I had covid and funnily enough a few weeks ago after my booster! I've had these all my adult life, mostly time of the month or when really run down. I've also had mammograms and been to the breast clinic 3 times with other lumps and they were fine. I saw different doctors with the ones after covid as I was shocked at how many came up but antibiotics knocked them on the head. Please please still get checked. But I know the panic and fear that sets in so hope have given you some peace of mind for tonight xxx

BootySOS · 28/12/2021 22:56

It certainly isn't time wasting. It is far better to be seen now than potentially a few weeks down the line.

PotteringAlong · 29/12/2021 11:35

@emsmar did you call? Flowers

Knittedfairies · 29/12/2021 13:12

I was havering about going to see the GP, being in the exact same position as the OP. Having been reassured (second-hand!) here that it wouldn't be a waste of their time I rang the health centre this morning and have already seen a doctor. I've been referred to the breast clinic which is what I expected. Have you spoken to your GP @emsmar?

emsmar · 29/12/2021 18:20

I didn't today! It's my DS birthday. Didn't want to end up running out to GP incase he questioned it. Nothing on tomorrow and he's at his dads now so will do it then. I woke up and thought for a wee second it was gone but it's still there and still painful. Glad you got referred! Hope you get on okay! xxx

Kept putting this off as I felt like I was making a fuss but went to the GP this morning and have been referred. She said the lumps quite soft so isn't terribly worried! Fingers crossed. What do they do for a visit to the clinic? I'm really not worried, I think it's a cyst maybe!

Obviously there will be exceptions but most of the time breast cancer lumps don't cause pain. It's likely to be a cyst but 100 percent always worth checking.

emsmar · 19/01/2022 11:20

Just back from clinic! A pea sized cyst! They said they could put a needle in it to check and I said no thank you. I can self refer back within 6 months if there are any more changes or it gets more uncomfortable! Phew!

They also said I have thick glandular tissue and not a lot of fat in my boobs. So basically flat lumpy sacks instead of tits! 😂
