Pain in right collarbone/right abdomen when breathing

squashie34 · 26/12/2021 10:06

Just wondering if anyone could shed any personal experience on this as with it being Boxing Day there's no chance of seeing a GP

I've had for the last 24 hours a pain in my right collarbone and upper right chest when I take a deep breath, also feels like it's in my
Upper right abdomen just under my ribs, can radiate to my back at times too. Last night I was in agony and it felt every time I took too deep a breath it was like something was sitting on my chest. I couldn't lie on my right side at all as i couldn't catch my breath for the pain, left side was ok though. Today it's tolerable but definitely still there when I breathe

Anyone had this before?

When you say collarbone, is it up towards your shoulder where it meets your arm? Shoulder tip pain can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy

mangoandraspberries · 26/12/2021 10:14

I have this sometimes, although not as acute as you describe. Sorry I can't help, but place marking in case someone comes along with an answer! I have tried GPS etc - most have said it is muscular, but no clear diagnosis. It goes away and then reappears for a few days 6 months later

I had this exact thing a week ago. I was rushed to hospital as it could be a blood clot. They can do tests very quickly and mine turned out to be pleurisy. The pain made me cry and couldn't sleep either as couldn't get comfortable. Please give the out of ours or 111 a call.
nickdrakeslovechild · 26/12/2021 10:16

Oh and they can rule out muscular very quickly too. Good luck.

CottonSock · 26/12/2021 10:16

I think you should call out of hours

Angrymum22 · 26/12/2021 10:17

With it being the season of overindulgence the area of pain suggests gallstones. I would strongly advise call to 111.
Alternatively could be muscle strain. But mumsnet is not the best place for diagnosis so if it is getting worse out of hours GP or 111.

Cocolapew · 26/12/2021 10:20

Pleurisy eases if you lie on the sore side.
I would worry about a clot, or etopic pregnancy.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 26/12/2021 10:20

I was going to say the same as @Angrymum22, if you put your fist just below your right boob and press is it tender? The symptoms you describe sound like gallbladder pain to me, drink lots of water, take pain killers and book for a GP appt and ask them to refer you for a scan of your gallbladder.

tiredanddangerous · 26/12/2021 10:21

Sounds like classic gallstones to me

Cismyfatarse · 26/12/2021 10:21

I get this in right shoulder socket near the front. Was told grumbling gall bladder (have been scanned for stones). Basically, estén too much fat!

SweetBabyCheeses99 · 26/12/2021 10:28

Could be costochondritis but I’d call 111 for chest pain!

squashie34 · 26/12/2021 10:41

I am 4 days late with my period but I have taken a test which was negative so I guess that rules out ectopic- also no lower stomach pain, it's upper right pain if anywhere. Just tried the pressing under my boob and not particularly tender to touch as I did wonder about gallstones. I have let myself go this Christmas season food wise 🤦‍♀️ Will keep on with the paracetamol and see if it eases up- don't want to take up 111/A&E time if it's not life threatening.

I should add I am burping quite a lot, could it be trapped wind? But would it last this long and only be on one side?

Angrymum22 · 26/12/2021 14:02

The old medical saying for gallstones was fair, fat, forty and fatty. There is another f but can’t remember was it’s for. It’s not obligatory to have all of them.
Just monitor your pain and any change seek medical advice.

nickdrakeslovechild · 27/12/2021 17:03

How are you feeling now OP?

squashie34 · 27/12/2021 22:11

@nickdrakeslovechild Ended up in A&E last night as the pain spread to my shoulder blades too. Had an ecg as pulse was 108 but was fine and chest X-ray all clear. Bloods came back with some signs of inflammation so they said it's likely just muscular and confident nothing more serious is happening - just paracetamol until it passes. Thanks for asking!

Glad they saw you, and ruled out anything untoward. Get well soon Flowers

gettingolderbutcooler · 27/12/2021 22:22

Gallbladder? Referred pain is in shoulder.

squashie34 · 28/12/2021 00:05

@gettingolderbutcooler they never even mentioned gallbladder actually, only seems concerned to rule out anything to do with heart/chest.
