Impacted wisdom tooth agony!! How to make it stop!???

Dear god I want to rip my face off.
On antibiotics for a suspected gum infection, realised after seeing the dentist that my impacted wisdom tooth is trying to errupt through the roots of the tooth in front.

Can’t have it pulled as an emergency as infected. Plus it needs surgically doing so I’m stuck with this god awful nerve throbbing pain in my jaw, face, neck, ear over Christmas.

Has anyone got any ideas on making this more bearable? I want to smash my head into a wall.

Oh I've been there! The only painkillers to touch it were diclofenec and naproxen. Not combined! As in I had diclofenec in the house so used that for a couple of days and then the dentist prescribed Naproxen. I think you can take paracetamol with the naproxen as well. You'd need to check this with a pharmacist.

Ring 111 now and they should be able to help you source painkillers either via the emergency dentist or out of hours.

And along with the painkillers, swab your gum with clove oil

How did you stop the pain? Did you have to get the tooth ripped out your head? 😬

Yes I had to have a GA as I'm a total wuss with teeth. I had to go to the dental hospital for this.

( I'm not a wuss in general- once walked home and caught the bus to Hospital with a broken wrist!)

So I know how awful teeth pain is. Also keep warm and lie on the side it's on. Somehow the pressure and warmth helps.

Sending unmumsnetty hugs.

Ooh my teeth have caused me hell in the past!! Especially the wisdom teeth had to have them all removed and 2 were through GA. I was in so much pain before literally on the floor crying that I had to get some of my father in laws tramadol, even that didnt touch the pain straight away but one is enough and boy do they feel good when they kick in! I am usually responsible and I know not to take other peoples meds but toothache can lead to desperation

G123454321 · 23/12/2021 22:53

I feel you on the desperation. I’ve paced, cried and punched my pillow a lot in the past 5 days.
I don’t even care what had to be done or by who or what it might cost… I just want this sucker yanked out!!!
Seeing dentist tomo to get confirmation of it being that tooth then I have to get through Xmas 🤦🏻‍♀️

I second clove oil. It makes everything taste weird for ages but really numbs the pain. Might be a bit difficult to get hold of at this time of night though so I hope you can get some painkillers to get you through until you can see the dentist tomorrow

PickAChew · 23/12/2021 22:59

It's an awful, hideous pain. I wanted to pull all my teeth out when I has an impacted wisdom tooth that got infected.

Ibuprofen and other anti inflammatories are best for the pain but if you can stand the taste, suck on a paracetamol or co-codamol tablet. If you can't stand the taste, buy some calpol 6+ and hold that against it. The relief is instant.

G123454321 · 23/12/2021 23:05

I’m on tramadol and ibuprofen. Clove oil I’ve now got too and it’s def helping take the edge off.

I’ve had this since last Friday and I know my dentist won’t do anything tomo. I’m actually booked in to have a different tooth extracted. The one we thought was the problem.

Now the antibiotics have taken the swelling down I can pinpoint the pain to where my horizontal wisdom tooth is.
Fingers crossed for only having to live like this for another week or so. That feels like an eternity right now 😥

I'm in not a dissimilar position to you, and these are taking the edge right off it.

I would start taking paracetamol as well OP, it can help the others to work. Also I found holding very cold water over the tooth helped a bit, some people find warm water is better. Do you think the antibiotics are working? Make sure you tell the dentist that the pain is still unbearable. I hope you get it sorted soon! I’d rather go through the c-section I had where the spinal wire off again than a tooth abscess, seriously.

G123454321 · 24/12/2021 11:03

I’ve seen the dentist who doesn’t think it’s the wisdom tooth causing the Pain so I’ve ended up having stage 1 of a root canal done.

I am praying that this works.
