New "growth" on face

I don't really know what this thing is so I've called it a growth...
I discovered something on the side of my face, about an inch from my ear when I was absent mindedly touching there. I think it was approx 6 months ago. It's small, definitely raised, colourless and dry. I can't seem to leave it alone and have scratched it off several times I'm afraid. The thing is that I can't see it and Dh is really dismissive of it.

  1. Would you try to see your gp? Obviously it's all tricky now
  2. What could it be?
Btw I know everyone will say only a dr could tell.

Could be a keratosis? I’m afraid I told my GP that I was worried about one about 15 years ago and she was so rude and dismissive that it put me off ever querying again!

Definitely see your GP. I had a small growth on the side of my head that I left for 15 years! It was eventually diagnosed as a Basel Cell Carcinoma- a slow growing, low grade skin cancer NOT a melanoma. It would bother me every now and again and I would scratch the top off. It would never seem to heal properly and felt a bit like a crater, with the edges raised and a dip in the middle.
It was removed and all good three years on.
My point is, the larger they get, the more disfiguring the removal could be.
Get this looked at in the new year just to put your mind at rest.

Anything new should be checked.

Moolia · 21/12/2021 21:49

It's likely to be nothing to worry about but also prudent to get it checked out for peace of mind. Could be a seborrheic keratosis but they tend to be slightly dark rather than colourless. They cam be itchy though so could explain why you keep scratching it off.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/12/2021 21:49

Dunno, chances are it’s nothing, but you need to see a doc.

A friend of mine had what appeared to be a spot on her forehead last year. It never healed so she went to the doc eventually - it was early stage skin cancer. They took it off and all is well. (She works for the NHS so it’s totally natural to not bother, but you must.)

Sounds a bit like something I had checked earlier this year. Mine was nothing to worry about - seborrheic keratosis - of which I have numerous. I would just sort a Dr appt - I saw a nurse who just put me through for a Dermatologist appt as she didn't really know what she was looking for.

The thing is that I can't see it and Dh is really dismissive of it.

Ask DH to take a photo of it. GP may well suggest to do that anyway?

WhatdramathisChristmas · 22/12/2021 11:52

I had a little mark on my face. Went to the GP about something else and he noticed it. Turned out to be the nasty basal cell carcinoma. Not all are harmless. Get it checked out.

dottyaboutstripes · 22/12/2021 16:35

Thanks for all your thoughts. I'll go and get it looked at.
I have asked Dh to take photos but somehow they are always terrible and you can't really make out what's what
