Kidney infection/UTI

Hi,

I've been on antibiotics for one week (kefalexin) for a kidney infection with uti. They didn't seem to work that quick but by the 6th day I started to feel better.

We have come on holiday for Christmas 12 hours from home and my UTI seems to be lingering again, i finished antibiotics on Thursday! 🙄 I have 3 days of nitrofurantin to take if needed but don't really want to if I can help it.

I've started taking D-manosse and drink lots. Not sure what's going wrong? A week of antibiotics seems like a lot to not work.

Any advice appreciated. X

Sorry op sounds like you need to go to a walk in centre and have a urine dipstick done to check for proteins etc.

I'm guessing you have increased frequency of urination or pain on passing urine?

You need a follow up (I realise you aren't near home) but if it isn't gone after antibiotics it could be many things- you need a stronger course/it's something else etc.

You just need to make sure the infection (if it is bacterial) doesn't "track" further up your urinary system. I'm assuming they did a culture of your pee last time, and that's how they arrived at that medication.

Good luck xx

perhaps call 111 as it's late . If you spike a temp (37.9+) you need to see someone more urgently or again call 111. Any blood in your urine ditto.

Hope that helps my area was never urology so just a general point in the direction of what I would do in your shoes

I always take nitro for my UTIs and they are brill. I would take them if you can

Thanks, I've already been through 111 to get the initial 7 day ones. They didn't bother testing as I used to get these A LOT when I was younger so always know the symptoms. I had side pain, a temperature and back pain so they said it was a kidney infection.

On day 4 I called the docs as they didn't seem to be working so they gave me 3 days of nitro to switch to if I wanted to, but I carried on with the course and thought I'd keep those if needed.

We are miles away from anywhere in Scotland now 😰

I have no side pain or temperature now, just an urgency to wee more often but no pain as such.

Thanks
