Vile taste after wisdom tooth extraction

I had a wisdom tooth removed a week ago, under sedation, so I don’t remember anything but apparently it was tricky as the tooth was broken. Ever since I have had a FOUL taste and I can’t get rid of it no matter what I do and it’s really getting me down. Also feel constantly nauseous. I went back to the dentist on Monday and she cleaned the socket out and put some clove stuff in but it’s made no difference, it’s just constantly emitting a vile, vile taste. It’s also painful, but controllable with regular ibuprofen. If anyone has experienced this, how long did it take to loose the taste? Or anything you did that eases it? I’m finding it unbearable!!

I had all my wisdom teeth taken out and packed with some kind of wadding (20-odd years ago) I cant still remember it - I tasted like a wolf, probably smelled liked it too.

If memory serves took a good fortnight but my memory could be exaggerating.

I had a big back tooth taken out about a month ago. It tasted vile and hurt for a good ten days/2 weeks. It wasn't at all pleasant but it passed.

Ok, thanks both. Reassuring it’s not just me. So realistically could well be another week of foulness. I think I just need to keep distracting myself from it and reminding myself it won’t last forever.

You have taken out the packing haven't you? When I had mine out recently they packed it with wadding type stuff and dear god the taste was awful (didn't know what they'd done) what I didn't realise was it smelt as bad as it tasted and my poor DH nearly passed out when ever I breathed near him! When I removed it all was fine. Took forever to heal over though, like a couple of months!

There’s no packing in there, sadly, that would’ve been a great solution! My 5 year old has confirmed with great delight that I smell as bad as I taste.

I had an extraction a few weeks ago and had the same thing. It lasted for several weeks. It was a sign of infection but more then that was the concomitant pain (I had dry socket). If you have no pain you probably don't have that.
