Chest x ray for allergic rhinitis

After almost 3 months of having what I thought was the worst cough/cold, GP has said it’s allergic rhinitis.

I’ve had a barking/phlegmy cough which he thinks is due to post nasal drip. My chest sounds clear. However he’s given me paperwork to book a chest x ray and marked it as urgent.

Is it normal to have an x ray for this and does anyone know what they’re looking for?

It is for completeness of your investigation.
Persistent cough can be caused by many things; commonly post nasal drip , medication, allergy, acid reflux etc We are, however , now advised that persistent cough should be investigated as occasionally it can pick up a more serious cause eg Tb or cancer. These are very very unlikely to be the cause but it is good practice by your doctor to investigate thoroughly.

Ah thank you. That’s good to know. He mentioned post nasal drip and my nose has been blocked and full for months. (Can’t wait for the meds to kick in so I can breathe again!)

I’ve never smoked, had asthma or suffered from coughs before so this long, lurking cough’s been very out of the blue.
