Thinning, wispy hair

My hair has always been very thick when I was younger but over the last few years it's thinned dramatically.

It's still thick at the roots but the hair itself is very thin and wispy and there's hardly anything left by the time it gets to the ends.

Ive recently had it cut to shoulder length but worried it's still getting worse.

I think it's just age-related. Not menopausal yet but mid 40s. Is this just what happens as you get older?

Has anyone's hair gone like this and then miraculously recovered?

Any miracle products that will help? I looked at Minoxil but you have to apply that to your scalp everyday indefinitely and I don't think I can face doing that.

Peri menopause can start mid 30’s & lasts around 10 years so it could be that affecting your hair -I can see my scalp through the front of my hair!

However it could also be low iron, thyroid, low B12/folate or vitamin D deficiency so it would be worth a chat to your GP.

I can't recommend highly enough reading Dr Louise Newson's book Preparing for the peri menopause and the menopause. I wish I'd read it sooner! I thought my thinning hair was due to post pregnancy but patches never grew back. I'm now a month into HRT and the hair loss has reduced considerably. Have a read @LucyLocketLostThePlot it's a game changer.

Are you anaemic? I am and since I have started taking iron my hair hardly falls out any more and is growing thicker again (I'm 48).

I would get your bloods checked. A ferrtin level over 10 comes back as normal but it needs to be 70 for hair to stop falling out and over 120 for growth. My hair is so so much better since taking iron, vit D, MSM & JSHealth Hair & Energy. It is amazing the difference it has made but it take a good 6 months to notice any difference.

Thanks very much for the replies. I think I'll have to see if I can get my levels checked. Although not sure if GPs are taking non urgent appointments right now?!
