Instructions for Sample Kit, please!

Hi, my GP told me to pick up a sample kit from Reception to return a stool sample. The Receptionist seemed harrasssed, grabbed stuff from a box and slid it under the window. All she said was ‘there is a label’.

I assumed there would be instructions on the sheet of paper, but no.

OK, I can use my common sense about collecting the actual sample. There is a tiny scoop attached to the lid of the pot.

But how much? Just a tiny scoop full? It is to test for H Pylori and ‘microbiology’.

And then what do I put in the plastic bag? I assume the sample pot.

What about the sheet of paper? It has a sticky strip across the top.
Do I just put the paper in the sealed plastic bag with the pot?

Thank you!

Hi,

I had to do one recently. The GP said about a quarter full is adequate 🤢.
He had already stuck the barcode label on for me, but sounds like you’ll have to do this yourself.
Good luck!

I too was given no instructions and had a test refused for not providing enough! Is there a line or mark on the tube? Fill it to that point. If not, about a quarter full sounds about right.

Thank you!

There is no label to stick on the pot, just the big sheet of paper with all the details on, which has a sticky bit under the arrows at the top.

I think I will must put the paper in the bag with the pot.

My bet is that you don't put the paper in the bag, but you use the sticky bit to attach the paper to the bag.

When I had to do a sample for bowel cancer screening I only had a stick to dip in, but they were very insistent in the instructions that the poo did not touch the toilet water. I was supposed to put a great wedge of loo roll into the loo so that the poo could rest on top of it.
