Should I be concerned

DP is telling me I'm "flapping" (which makes me want to throttle him), however last night this looked like an insect bite and now tonight it seems l, to me, to be much worse.

I've suggested he may want to seek medical advice, perhaps from the GP on Monday and I've been told to (nicely) wind my neck in and it'll be gone in a week.

Could I have an independent view as to whether I'm over-reacting or if I should push for medical attention please?

I'd be ringing 111 on that. It is infected... has the red area grown?

Tell him sepsis is something to flap about!

cultkid · 11/12/2021 20:34

Is it hot might? be a bit of cellulitis

Maybe ring 111 and see if you can show a GP on a webcam and get anti biotics

Put savalon on it

My husbands knee was enormous this week then his calf swelled up too massive. The doctor said he had a horrible case of cellulitis and urgently needed to take co amoxiclav the first time in the nearly ten years we have been together he was prescribed anti biotics!! The doctor was going on about a&e and being delirious etc

My husband came home decided not to take the anti biotics (I didn't agree with him) and it was gone two days later.

Not sure what to suggest, but I would put savalon on it and maybe draw around it to see if it is getting bigger

Xx

CockaleekieAye · 11/12/2021 20:35

Yep it's definitely grown and I've had sepsis and told him that it is something to be concerned about but he's being a knob and thinks he's impenetrable 🙄

Draw around the outside edge of that redness, if it spreads beyond that I'd call for advice.

thistimelastweek · 11/12/2021 20:36

Looks like a bite. Keep an eye on it in case it becomes infected.

Meanwhile, which bit of his body are we looking at?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/12/2021 20:37

Looks like his leg to me. Above the knee inside

CockaleekieAye · 11/12/2021 20:42

Thanks all, it's the lower inside thigh. I've drawn around the red area as it's definitely much bigger than last night. It's also much hotter than the surrounding non-red area.

I've shared your comments so he can see that sepsis doesn't give a fuck if he thinks he's ok and he's gone off to look for some savlon (he's in the kitchen pouring me a drink so might as well kill two birds with one stone and all that).

Hopefully, it's not sepsis but at least with the comments above I know I'm know doom-saying and over-reacting.

I was told by a health professionals to do this and check to see if it’s spreading. Looks like you may need some antibiotics ASAP.
nocoolnamesleft · 11/12/2021 20:45

May be infected. May be allergic if it was an insect bite. Has he tried taking antihistamines?

CockaleekieAye · 11/12/2021 20:47

Thank you.

He's taken nothing so far, but we have savlon and anti-histamines (I think) so I'll get him to take some too.

I think he's realised I'm not suffering from munchausens by proxy and that he probably needs to be a grown up and look after himself.

Bagelsandbrie · 11/12/2021 20:49

Cellulitis or sepsis potentially. It needs checking urgently.

Beamur · 11/12/2021 20:54

Ouch.
Definitely draw around it so you can track if it's getting bigger.
My DH has had really bad reactions to spider bites before - took weeks to go down.
If it's continuing to spread he should seek help.

perhapstomorrow · 11/12/2021 20:57

There was somebody on here a while ago who had a very similar bite that started to swell and go red exactly like your photo. I'm sure she ended up in hospital for a couple of days on IV antibiotics as it had got infected. Best get it checked out.

Chattercino · 11/12/2021 20:57

How is he feeling in himself? If fever then he needs antibiotics ASAP

CockaleekieAye · 11/12/2021 21:01

Thanks all. He feels ok in himself, no fever. I'll keep an eye on him to make sure things aren't worsening.

If there's any chance it could have been a tick bite he will need antibiotics to avoid lyme disease, which can be disabling.

CockaleekieAye · 11/12/2021 21:05

We haven't been anywhere which is tick bite likely, so just hoping it's an allergic reaction to some random bite

Hi op I had horsefly bites over the summer on my leg. I got antibiotics from the GP as it’s really dangerous to leave them untreated if they’re infected. In the meantime, antihistamines as pp suggested and put ice wrapped in tea towel on it if it’s hot.

vivainsomnia · 12/12/2021 13:43

I've been bitten by mosquitoes which got even worse than that. Did nothing, just checked I had no fever or starting to feel unwell. It was all gone after a week.

CambsAlways · 12/12/2021 14:02

I was bitten around ten years ago after walking through long grass ( horsefly bite, developed cellulitis after leaving it thinking it would go down and just putting ice and taking antihistamine, I would advise him to get checked

CockaleekieAye · 12/12/2021 22:23

Seems much less red today and hasn't spread any further, so he's looking a bit smug that he was right but has taken another anti histamine to be sure.

Thanks for all comments/suggestions
