Flu jabs and epilepsy in 9 year old THIS AFTERNOON

DS had a seizure last Tuesday {fainting and then seizure.}

Anyway he is due to have flu jab this afternoon because he has asthma.

Is the a problem?

Does anyone know?

He has had flu jabs for several years already.

Why don't you phone your GP's surgery and ask for advice from either a GP or one of the nurses there? I'm sure someone would be happy to talk to you to put your mind at rest.

I have flu jabs Kanga, and it has never affected me.

I phoned NHS direct and they were no help

Surgery is closed for lunch now

I think as I am having it as well I will take him with me and get the nurse to ask his GP.

I missed the telephone consultation time which is 10am until 10.30. with GP.

Thanks Lou I think that he should have it as the chances of him getting ill with his asthma I think are more likely than epilepsy/flu jab.

If that makes any sense. Especially as it has not been proved that he has Epilepsy.

I figure that if it has been ok for you lou then I will talk to nurse and get her to talk to GP if they say yes then yes

things have moved on jabs wise wrt advice for epileptics, since I was a child. I wasn't allowed the whooping cough vaccine as a child because of my epilepsy, and all jabs that we had through school had to be done at my gp's instead.I think nowadays they say pretty much all jabs are ok for those with epilepsy, but you should check first of all with the nurse or gp. I'd be surprised if they recommended against having it though.

I telephoned the surgery and the receptionist asked GP who walked into the reception and he said "Go Ahead" so we went and it was a new nurse and she wasn't interested in what I was saying anyway, so am really glad I got the answer from him earlier.

DS was very brave with the jab

lou pertussis is still contraindicated for epilepsy- although the risks are less with the aP than wP so that may change.

how strange jimjams,they told us recently that dd1 would be allowed it today had she been a baby, even though she was suspected of epilepsy and had hydrocephalus. She got a really bad dose of whooping cough instead and missed 4 months off school.
