Insomnia; which is better Sominex or Amitriptyline

I never had insomnia before menopause and both of these were suggested when I did

Now HRT patches have solved the menopause insomnia (& they were life changing)

I had covid and now I may be post viral or overly anxious and I'm not sleeping again

So which should I try?

Amitriptyline worked really well for me after like 10 years of insomnia. Bliss!

I got 10mg melatonin online for menopausal insomnia, shipped from the US as you can only get it on prescription here I believe.

Blue sominex or night nurse.

I take amitriptyline for nerve pain and sleep issues. For a few months it really helped with my sleep and knocked me out. After a while my body got used to it to a certain degree and it stopped working so well. I still sleep better with it than without it though. I take it 10-11 hours before I need to get up

I took amitriptyline for nerve pain and it worked like a charm to help me sleep.
I took it for waaaay longer than I should have done just because I loved the side effect of actually getting a full night's sleep.

When I took amitryptiline I used to take it no later than 4pm or it wouldn’t help me sleep until 4am and then obviously be horrendously sleepy the next day. Lovely sleep but hard to wake up.

I'm so tired I slept 4ish to 9:30

I need to fix this

@katymac I'm guessing you've tried exercise as well. My problems seem to get worse and worse, but I did for a while get something out the Pukka night time tea plus Nytol. Unfortunately also seems to build up tolerance.

KatyMac · 17/12/2021 11:10

When it was because of hrt I tried exercise but realistically I'm not reliably out of bed after covid!

You can take Amritryptiline long term. Which you can’t with Sominex.

I also found Sominex made me really bad tempered.
