Any dermatologists? I’m at my wits end!

Having a problem with my hand (just one). Stared in Jan as a few small spots of dry skin around the size of 5p coins. It’s now spread to the point that most of my fingers/thumb and a large patch on my hand are covered.

Very sensitive to temperature, flares up and becomes extremely raw and irritated to the point where it’s hard to touch things. It’s ridiculously painful when it flares up (happens at least once a week). When it calms down after a few days it’s left so dry that I get splits on my fingertips which is then also painful. It’s getting to the point when when it’s really bad I’m actually struggling to hold a pen or type!

Have been dealing with my GP but they basically said “contact dermatitis - you need to stop touching whatever is causing it”. I’ve been on 3/4 different steroid creams and moisturisers. They’ve said it’s very unusual for only one hand to be affected. I asked about the possibility of it being fungal and was told it definitely isn’t as it doesn’t have the correct appearance. Doesn’t seem to be any pattern to it flaring up after touching a certain thing, only one hand is affected and it’s spreading. The only thing I have noticed is that if I’m stressed or upset it flares up within hours. GP has said that isn’t relevant but I struggle to see how it can’t be. I’ve asked for a dermatology referral but have been told it’s at least a 6-8 month wait.

Anyone got ANY ideas? Can’t really afford it but at this point I’m thinking private might be the only way to go.

Forgot to attach pictures. This is it today when it’s calmed right down. And this 10x better than normal after sleeping with cotton gloves on and had slathered in moisturiser.

Fungal was the first thing I thought of too! I would push for them to take swabs if it's not clearing up. Also get a pot of aqueous cream or Aveeno lotion and slather yourself in it at every possible opportunity, even when it clears up i would keep using the creams. Eczema and dermatits can be miserable, I feel your pain Flowers

Have you tried treating with athlete's foot cream in case it's fungal? I know the GP has said it isn't but might be worth a try. You can buy it off the shelf

@emmathedilemma Thank you! I’ll push for swabs from the GP.

@HippyChickMama You know, I’ve spent literally hundreds of pounds buying just about every eczema/dermatitis/psoriasis cream going this year and that the one thing I haven’t thought of! Off to the pharmacy now 🤞🏼
