Perforated eardrum

Hi all. Last Wednesday I had unbearable ear pain followed by it leaking blood. Went to OOH and was prescribed antibiotics and told to contact GP if no better. GP yesterday confirmed eardrum has perforated. I have a couple of questions that I forgot to ask her if anyone knows -

  • how likely is it I'll get full hearing back and in how long? I'm struggling with the deafness I'm very disoriented
  • it's my works Christmas meal on Friday. Keen to go as currently on mat leave and would like to catch up with friends. Will music in the bar have any impact on an already burst drum?
  • I've woken up this morning and it's quite sore. Is that normal? I thought once it had burst the pain would be completely gone

Thanks for any advice Smile

I had a perforated ear drum once as a child and have no loss of hearing. For me the pain was also from an infection and I don't remember it stopping immediately.

Thanks @Swirlywoo that's reassuring!

Mines burst 4/5 times in the last 10 years. It's healed every time although the time before last I was told it wouldn't heal properly if it burst again and my hearing hasn't come back fully this time.

You can get surgery if it doesn't heal properly but it probably will

Thanks @girlmom21 I feel for you, I've never known anything like it

@mrshadders the last couple of times I've been hoping it hurries up and bursts because I'm rubbish with pain so would rather deal with the nastiness that follows than the pain of the infection itself.

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!

Happened to me quite often as a kid, my hearing is bad now but was fine straight after it had healed, had the leaking blood several times after as well. Everyone is different, just keep an eye on it and if it’s bothering you that much bring it up with doctor.
