DD (2.6) got a bad cold, not eating or drinking much, any tips?

DD has a bad cold (as have I and dp) and won't eat much, went berserk with excitment when I brought out the cucumber, ate one slice and took mouthfuls out of 3 more, said yes to cheese and crackers - played with them, drunk 1 cup of milk, drunk big travel cup of juice, has eaten 1/2 packet of crisps, choc from advent calendar, left the toast I made her, threw newly made juice in travel cup across room, threw 1/2 pack of aforementioned crips across room, refused ice lolly, hates tissues when normally she's very good at nose wiping,
has gone to sleep now....

Everything is "no", she is so contrary! So I've not been making an effort to do a proper meal for her as over the weekend all meals got left.... I don't want to force her when she's not well.

Went to take her shoes off after dropping ds at his friends house, "no, back on" so I put back on the one I had taken off, "off, off" immediately requested.... [sigh]

I really can't be bothered now, and have no enthusiasm for making myself something to eat...

Anyone got any tips as to how to get food and more importantly liquid into her? I can't even get paracetemol or cough meds into her via spoon or syringe. She's never allowed that!

Just a bit melodramticaly paranoid that we're going to end up in the hospital [worried]

I always have trouble getting my dd & ds to eat / drink when they are ill.

DD is a fussy eater anyway and when she has a cold all she will eat is biscuits and yoghurt, for days at a time. She is also really particular about medicines etc and will not have Calpol or antibiotic syrup. She's quite happy to have Calbruphen though so it might be worth trying just different types / brands with your dd to see if she'll take to one. Also I found my dd likes the Haliborange vitamen syrup which I give her on a 'medicine' spoon, then you can sneak a spoon of something else in when she thinks more Haliborange is coming. I think it masks the taste too.

My ds has always been difficult to get to drink anything and when he's ill he won't drink at all. That really worries me when he has a temperature. I just start offering anything - ice cream, custard, tea...it mainly gets turned down! Once he drank only 1/4 beaker in two days! Got really worried that time.

Hope you all feel better soon.

Thanks for that! Made scrambled eggs which got left but she took a few mouthfuls of toast and now is nibbling a few bits of her favourite chorizo sausage...

she's buzy chasing the cat atm so she's not too dehydrated, yet!
