Gastritis/ulcer/gallbladder/pancreas??

I’m about at my wits end. Honestly, the last 2 years have been an endless depressing cycle of one thing after another health wise. I’m mid 40’s, slim and don’t smoke. Don’t drink too much either, and diet pretty ok. I do suffer from anxiety, and this particular health issue has really got my anxiety going.

So, around a month ago I began having stomach pain, under ribs on mainly right but sometimes left too - moves around a bit. Sometimes feels like trapped gas that if it could just shift would ease things. Sometimes feels like someone’s drilling right through me. Also back pain in the same areas. A feeling of fullness after non excessive meals, almost painful hunger pangs when I shouldn’t be hungry. All in all I’m miserable and it’s more and more constant. The pain is not to the point of unbearable, but very uncomfortable and disconcerting.

Got bloods taken and they came back ‘normal’. Was put on omeprazole which has made no difference to symptoms whatsoever. Since I began the omeprazole though, my stools have become pale and yellowy (sorry for tmi). I don’t know if it’s the omeprazole or may have happened anyway with whatever is going on.
I’m now really worried it’s my pancreas after googling (I know I shouldn’t have) pale stools. Urgh.

So basically upper abdominal and back pain for a month, bloods ok, on omeprazole with no change, now stools abnormal.

Going to have to call GP again and perhaps get an US for gallbladder. Maybe an endoscopy for ulcer too. I guess I could be waiting a while given the current state of the NHS.Anyone got any ideas what might be going on, or similar stories? Thanks.

I can't shed any light on this for you but just wanted to say I'm exactly the same!! All started from no where with pain down middle of chest, sometimes to the right and sometimes to the left. Feeling hungry when I'm not, gnawing feeling. Put on omiprozole with no improvement if anything for more symptoms including watery , yellow poo and cramps. Adding in also a pain on my sternum that hurts to touch from the outside. Back to the dr tomorrow I think

Mistymoors · 05/12/2021 19:33

Hi! Almost similar to mine I have an ultrasound booked within the next few days ! Out of interest do you have any bloating ?? I am constantly bloated and it’s really uncomfortable! It’s not ovarian has I have been tested !!

defnotadomesticgoddess · 05/12/2021 19:41

I had similar symptoms to you, Gp sent me for an urgent abdominal ultrasound (which I got 3 days later) turned out I had gallstones. By the time I’d got to that point I also was struggling to eat anything. Try eating very low fat/no fat foods too as if it’s your gallbladder that should help. Had my gallbladder out and all the symptoms went. Get sorted asap I left mine for ages before I went to the gp 💐

whataballbag · 05/12/2021 19:44

I had a similar pain, it moved all the time. Turned out to be gastritis and a hiatus hernia

Bitesize123 · 05/12/2021 19:51

I had gallstones 9 years ago and it was very similar to the symptoms you have described OP. I was slim, ate well and exercised regularly. It can be hereditary, not always lifestyle related (my Dad had gallstones in his 20s). The pain stopped as soon as I had my gallbladder removed. I found eating a very low fat diet really helped before my operation, as it reduced the attacks.

tiredanddangerous · 05/12/2021 19:53

Sounds like classic gallstones to me (I have them)

Sebastianthecoo · 05/12/2021 19:54

I’ve had gastritis and it’s awful pain but if it’s ongoing you need more tests. Have you lost weight?

WilsonMilson · 06/12/2021 17:48

Thanks all, I was back at doctor today, she thinks it’s gastric so has referred me privately to gastroenterology as said I could be waiting months on NHS for gallbladder scan or endoscopy - I can’t possibly go on like this for months. Even privately now there will probably be a waiting list to see someone.

Feeling absolutely rubbish. Have lost lbs that I can’t afford to as I’m only 8 stone, and just in constant pain - it’s not excruciating, but it’s always there, moves from front to back and around a bit, and it’s sucking all the joy out of life. Luckily I’ve not had any nausea at all, don’t even have heartburn, which makes me wonder if it’s gastric at all, perhaps it’s gallstones. Whatever it is, I just want it to stop! Urgh.

To speed things up your gp can refer you directly for a private abdominal ultrasound. That’s what I had, 2 days after seeing my gp. Then as the ultrasound confirmed I had gallstones I saw a private gastric surgeon the next week. Would have been months on the nhs to see someone.

Rekorderlig88 · 07/12/2021 20:28

Hi yes similar symptoms here I have sphincter of oddi dysfunction but also got my gallbladder out
Have you tried buscopan

Geamhradh · 07/12/2021 20:32

Sounds typically gallbladder issues to me too, especially given the yellow stools.

CambsAlways · 08/12/2021 23:33

Mines similar to yours mines pain under and around left rib into back lower back but middle area, I’m on omperazole 20mg doesn’t do a thing, I have bloating from under belly button right down to bottom of stomach , saw dr today who says wants urine sample, stool sample, as I have to go urgently as soon as I get up, not diarrhoea but softer, pressure pain like being blown up with a pump, ordering a colonoscopy, and ultra sound for ovaries and bowel, I asked her what she was checking for she said to rule out bowel cancer, and look at ovaries and bowel as very tender in these areas, I have reflux! Asked if blood in stool but not that I know! I have nausea too,

Winealot · 10/12/2021 17:37

Thought I’d update, had an ultrasound today and no gallstones found and pancreas, liver etc all looked normal.
The sonographer said that ultrasound isn’t great for checking the bowels though.
My problem doesn’t feel bowel related, it’s mainly upper right discomfort so goodness knows 🤷‍♀️.
So, they’ve now ruled out h pylori and gallstones.
I did tell them that it’s been worse since I had covid a few months ago and he said there’s a lot they don’t know regarding gut flora and long term symptoms.

Buttercup72 · 10/12/2021 17:43

Look into SIBO - this relates to gut flora. You may be helped by taking oregano softgels and several months of good probiotics or/kefir.

KittenCatcher · 10/12/2021 17:47

Winealot, are you OP with a name change.

Winealot · 10/12/2021 18:24

@kittencatcher. No, I’m not the OP, I answered earlier in the thread to say I had the same symptoms

Winealot · 10/12/2021 18:25

@buttercup72, thank you. I have got some probiotics which I’m going to start taking.

Winealot · 10/12/2021 18:26

Sorry, just realised it was another thread I’d been posting on 🤦‍♀️

KittenCatcher · 10/12/2021 18:32

I thought I was going a bit bonkers, hope you are ok though.

WilsonMilson · 12/12/2021 14:17

I see the confusion as I just answered @winealot on a different thread she had started. Seems our symptoms are pretty much the same.

At least you’ve had anything sinister rules out, I’m seeing gastro on Tuesday but don’t know when I will get ultrasound, hopefully quickly as it’s private. Will update!

@WilsonMilson hey any update on what was wrong?

If you google “mumsnet” and wilsonmilson (unless you have ultimate and search) I think you can read what happened. But a warning - it’s not a happy ending.

Pixie1771 · 25/01/2025 10:27
