So I'm knocked up - what can I do about this flu, echinacea, anything?

It's tailing off a bit now, (although that's not saying much, I still feel terrible.) Thing is, I had this a month ago, got rid of it, had 2 weeks off and now I've got it again. I thought there was something wrong with my immune system to get this twice, and whaddya know, there is - it was out of action whilst a teeny blastocyst grabbed on!

I'm just wondering if you can take echinacea whilst pregnant (I've a feeling you can't) or should I just eat lots of superfoods and hope for the best? I really need to get back on my feet as I've a feeling DS is about to catch it as well...

Oh and are strepsils off limits now too?

I don't think you can have much now, a hot toddy if you're light on the whisky? Elderberry is meant to be very good and lots of honey and vitamin C. Make juices with lots of carrot, apple and ginger.

You are allowed paracetomal (sp?)at least I was when I was pregnant. But ring your GPthat's what they're there for. Ask what you can take. Rebelmum's suggestions sound lovely.

Chicken soup really is good as well!

A hot toddy is absolutely the best thing imho epecially if you juice lemon and lime and ginger with an orange. I'd also have manuka honey it's the best you can buy and has lots of extra nutrients it's a natural anti-biotic too. I'm allergic to paracetemol and aspirin so always use alternatives.

Manuka honey is fantastic. I have used it, inter alia, to sort out a septic toe. I dressed the toe in Manuka and within 36 hours the pus (sorry--a bit disgusting) had gone.

Oh and while I'm still here if you slice an onion, drizzle honey over it and leave over night the honey brings out the onion juice and you're left with a syrup, which is excellent for colds and flu.

rebelmum1 · 17/12/2007 16:53

I do these for my dd too minus the whisky

ivykaty44 · 17/12/2007 16:55

I have had this as well - keep drinking honey, lemon with garlic and ginger (omit the garlic if you like).

Home made chicken soup is great - shop brought chx soup isn't the same??

Thank you lovely ladies for all these suggestions - I'm going to dig my juicer out!

I'm being all paranoid now because before I found out I was pregnant (I was convinced I wasn't!) I was necking night nurse and ibuprofen and covonia and pretty much anything I thought might help! The shrimp won't have been damaged by it all, will it?
