Hi, I'm a regular user but I've changed my name.

I am really overwhelmed with life and think finally going on medication may help.

My partner and mum have made a suggestion they may think I'm bipolar which I would understand as my moods dip regularly then I can be ok again. I have outbursts, sometimes I don't know why.

My question is, I want to do this without the know of my family. I'd like to get better and happier confidentially. I'd like to know if me going to the GP about this, would they alert anyone as I have a toddler?

We have a very stable home, financially comfortable, both in good jobs etc but a lot of my issues stem from childhood.

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense.

I have bipolar and a small toddler. My situation is a bit different as everyone already knew I had bipolar disorder before I had my little one. I don't quite understand what you mean by 'would they alert anyone'? Who is 'anyone'? If you mean SS they would only alert them if they had a safeguarding concern. Having a mental illness like bipolar disorder does not automatically mean you are a risk to your child.
But yes, health visitor is aware of my illness as is my GP.

@ashley9091 yes, I meant SS as I don't know the difference of things how I have a child. I didn't know if it was an automatic notification to them, I've just read a few horror stories. Thank you for sharing.
