DH throat/thyroid problems - scared

Wondering if anyone has had any experience with anything like this?

DH has had a hoarse throat that comes and goes for at least 5 years or so (he's mid 20's now). Recently it's been getting worse and about a month ago he started feeling like a lump was in his throat. After a bit of persuading I got him to speak to the GP last week who immediately called him in. She said she felt a large lump under his Adams apple and has referred him for urgent bloods, ent and ultrasound.

This weekend however, he's been in a lot of pain with it, can't talk properly and was up half the night gagging and bringing up mucous. We think it might be his thyroid from my googling (he has some other symptoms that would fit) but I'm terrified that he is going to choke/stop breathing etc as this lump seems to be growing so quickly.

He's got another phone call with the GP this afternoon but I'm freaking out that they aren't going to do anything for weeks.

Anyone been through similar?

Sorry to hear this @popapoppadum. Good that he managed to contact the doctor again and was sent to A&E. Hope he goes on ok.

Thanks @reallysaying. He's had bloods and endoscopy at A&E. Nothing obvious from the endoscopy which is good news but will be getting a biopsy and ultrasound done. Just got to wait now!

Waiting can be the hardest part, but at least you are moving forwards now.
