Lung spasms when coughing

I’ve had a cold and have the usual (for me) cough. I’m not unwell, no temp, bit tired but nothing major.

I get what I can only describe as a spasm in my lung either when I cough, not every time, but also when I move in a certain way.
They are painful, I have to stop what I’m doing and sometimes double over with pain.

I’ve had a chest x ray which has come back clear. I asked the GP receptionist what is the next action then as these spasms are really painful, she said to see how it goes and to phone for a same day, expressed “emergency” Hmm appointment if it becomes unbearable!

Will this settle down, does anyone know please?

Should have added, I was told that if there was any inflammation that it would have showed up on the x ray, so I’m guessing that means there is no pleurisy/infection?

I'd guess you've pulled a muscle when coughing so when you cough again it will twinge. As long as you aren't breathless or coughing up any blood I wouldn't worry just take paracetamol and of course ring 111 if it persists or gets worse.
