So scared. Last year when I was about 34 weeks pregnant I developed a bad vein in my inner left thigh it was rock solid with about 4 lumps so painful to touch. I had about 4 ultrasounds within the last month of pregnancy and told it is a bad varicose vein that could disappear after pregnancy. It had 4 weak spots where the blood was pooling that showed up on the ultrasounds. It did intact but now a year later it’s killing me. It’s throbbing so much and is sore when I move in certain positions. It was throbbing so bad yesterday and this morning but the pain has eased slightly. The pain tends to come and go but really hurts when it comes on and when I press it. I called my GP this morning and the doctor told me it’s normal for varicose veins to swell and hurt and will let the nurse have a look tomorrow but there is nothing they can do for me. I’m so worried it could be a clot and they are dismissing it. What do I do? If it is a clot does the pain come and go or stay?

I've found the pain from a clot doesn't come and go. The most likely cause is the varicose vein. However, it's going to be a worry in pregnancy and it's disappointing your GP hasn't been more helpful. Are you being seen in any other clinics or could your midwife help you? Do you have any previous or family history of clots?

Things you can do to help yourself in the meantime: Drink water and stay well hydrated. Keep your legs elevated when sitting down. But also do move around at intervals rather than staying immobile for hours.

If the pain gets worse or is unbearable, there is always the option of going to A&E.
