The friend I share my house with has got it and I've been keeping everything crossed I wouldn't get it but after feeling absolutely shattered and run down for a few days two spots appeared on Thursday....last night I noticed several more.

Do I need to go to the Doctors or just ride it out. Pretty sure I haven't got shingles-had it before and felt so foul I think I'd resognise the signs.

Why now, and why me

If you've had shingles then you have also had chicken pox.

oh i feel so sorry for you css. i had it about 9 years ago (i was 21) and didnt bother calling the doctor at first, but then it got worse, i was sooo ill my parents had to carry me to the bathroom to be washed (oh the humiliation!) when doctor did come he gave me very large Zovirax tablets to stop the spots appearing. i was ill for about 3 weeks in all, but on the upside i lost weight and looked lovely after!

hope you're ok.

According to the Doctor my friend saw it makes no difference if you've had it before as you can get it again was so sure I wouldn't though.

I remember having it when I was about 6 or 7.

you can catch chicken pox more then once. Hoepfully if you do have it again, it will be mild.

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 14/12/2007 12:32

I hope so. Thanks x

if you have chickenpox, watch out for complications such as a very high temp and cough that won't come down. dh had cp in may, temp went up to 41.2oc and would not come down. Admitted to ITU for 3 days with pneumonia. Very rare occurence mind you, he was just unlucky.

Feel better!!!

Try having a Dettol bath - when I had chicken pox I found it really helped.

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 14/12/2007 15:25

Haven't got any Dettol and can't get out to get any really.

A lavender bath helped a little bit though.

Thanks everyone.

Yep you can definitely have it more than once. dh's niece had it bad when small & still got it again when a few months pg Thankfully she & baby are ok but it meant she was scared to break the news about her pg 'til her scans came back clear.

The doc should be able to prescribe Aciclovar (Zovirax) for you & you can get calamine cream now which is supposed to be better than the lotion as it doesn't dry out & make the itching worse. I think someone also said to put bicarb of soda in your bath too but you'd better google it first in case I'm talking rubbish.

Feel better soon.
