How do I lose weight. Help me.

I have heard of stories where people have gradually gained loads of weight over the years but I've just come to the realisation I am one of the stars of this show.

Over the last 7 years, I've gone from 70kg (which I always felt I needed to lose a little) to a staggering 100kg. Fair enough, I've had two DCs in between that time, but I'm wondering to myself, how did I let it get this far? I'm fairly active (take walks as much as I can), eat a healthy meal most of the week (subscribe to hello fresh) and cook a recipe I've had before on other nights. (Maybe takeouts once in 2 weeks or so). Mostly I don't have breakfast and eat a sandwich or salad for lunch (hate soup).

I don't think I binge on sweet things or unhealthy things although I do have my fair portion of them. I don't drink so much, maybe once in 2 weeks or even once a month on a lot of occasions.

I want to lose all this weight but don't know where or what to change in my lifestyle. I do not want to go on drastic diets as most of the time, people put all that weight back on. I am looking for how and where I can change my lifestyle without going to the extreme. My DCs are 1 and 5 and I work full time, so limited on time for most things.

What methods do you normally use to stay fit. I feel I do the right things but get the wrong results. Please someone HELP ME.

I would post on the weight loss chat board. There’s loads of great support there.

I would start by doing a week or so of weighing everything, logging everything you’re eating and seeing where the extra calories are coming from.

Thanks a lot. Will start logging everything I eat. And would also post on that chat.

There's a really great thread on the style and beauty board atm. A woman is asking how to feel better about herself and although weightless is part of that, there are lots of other suggestions being made and it's generally a really lovely, positive thread about improving self image. Check it out, it has some good ideas of how to start - like super basics with drinking more water etc...
For me the only thing that works is tracking what I eat. It's horrifying how many calories you can take in and not even realise, so maybe look at MyFitmessPal and just eat normally for a week, but keep track of it, as suggested above. You'll see what times of day are dangerous, what foods, whether you've had enough water, enough sleep etc...
The nice thing about having so much to lose is that the first bit comes off relatively easily, which gives you a boost! Don't try and lose too much in one go, don't weigh yourself more than once a week and always at the same time of day and pay more attention to the fit of clothes/a tape measure. I've started weight lifting recently and have put 1kg on, but my clothes are looser so I'm not too bothered...

Absolutely write down everything you eat and drink and be honest about it. Get the kitchen scales out and use something like My Fitness Pal as the nutritional info on the packets is often for a portion that's much smaller than most people eat - most cereals quote for 30g which would have a toddler asking for seconds!
All the little things add up too.....butter on your sandwich, sugar in your coffee, fizzy drinks, cakes / biscuits / chocolates left out to share in the office.....
