Weird migraine aura

I've suffered with migraines for quite some time. I have medication (triptans) which does help somewhat in easing symptoms, but I've started getting really awful aura and symptoms with the migraines.

Today I lost all feeling in my hands and feet, I've had numbness before but not to this level. I also lost most of my vision which I've experienced before, but the last two times I've had a migraine I've lost the ability of speech and language processing. I can't understand what people are saying to me, they might as well be speaking another language. I also can't put a sentence together or recall even simple words, I'll come out with a totally different word or nothing at all, then I forget what I'm trying to say .

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be going back to the doctor or just accept that this is another symptom. I honestly feel like I've had a stroke. It's so frustrating and debilitating especially as the next 2 days will now be a write off for anything productive. I'm wiped out.

Yes I get this with a bad migraine. It’s as if my whole body just shuts down, I find it very difficult to talk or to just understand what’s being said to me. I just want everyone to go away and leave me be (my poor DH and DC). I can’t even swallow water.

I would definitely go back to your GP and describe your symptoms, there’s a whole load of different preventers you can try as well.

This sounds like the kind of migraine I get - a hemaplegic migraine, also known as a stroke mimic. Horrendous things.

I don't suffer with migraines so unsure just how bad they can get.

However I have experienced these symptoms, an extreme headache, worsening over a few days to include loss of vision and eventually speech and understanding. The speaking another language part really resonates as that's exactly how it felt. I don't mean to alarm you, but it turned out the symptoms were brought on because of a blood clot in my brain. This was years ago now, and my husband brought me to the hospital as soon as my speech went and a scan found the clot which had caused what was essentially a stroke. All good now bar a little weakness on one side but barely noticeable.

If you're experiencing what you feel could be stroke symptoms I would urge you to go to A&E. Better safe than sorry.

@sweetkitty yes that's exactly it! Just total shutdown. I'll give them a ring today, hopefully they can suggest some other things.

@KurtWilde I'll look into those, they are so debilitating aren't they!

@JessicaH84 oh how terrifying for you! My symptoms have improved now, I just have the migraine hangover but if they worsen I'll definitely go and get checked out! Thank you
